Job description

Description:

The purpose of this classification is to perform the daily shipping and receiving activities for the Company Distribution Department. The person in this position will load/unload trucks and trailers, tag and sort merchandise, verify that merchandise shipped out and/or received in is correct and free of defects; and operate light and heavy equipment in order to fulfill assigned job duties.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Loads/unloads trucks in order to distribute merchandise in the warehouse.
  • Loads/unloads merchandise to/from trailers; unpacks and moves merchandise to designated shipping or receiving area; checks for damaged merchandise.
  • Ensures orders ready for shipping are accurate; check for defective merchandise.
  • Matches stock keeping unit (SKU) numbers to loads ready for shipment in order to verify quantity and type of merchandise.
  • Applies stock location labels with appropriate warehouse zone to merchandise to ensure proper inventory control.
  • Covers and secures loads for delivery.
  • Checks in and signs for in-bound freight.
  • Verifies freight received against packing slips and/or bills.
  • Checks and verifies out-bound merchandise to stores.
  • Stocks and/or picks merchandise on shelves, bins and locations utilizing various pieces of equipment and reports/documents.
  • Maintains the work area in a safe and orderly manner by performing various maintenance duties such as picking up trash, sweeping, dusting, etc.
  • Operates light and heavy equipment such as forklift, order picker, tow motor, squeeze press, pallet jack, hand truck, tugger, spotting tractor, etc. to complete essential job functions.
  • Performs light maintenance on department equipment as needed.
  • Performs cycle count inventory

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED required plus appropriate required certification; six months experience in a distribution or warehouse environment; or any combination of training, experience and education which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and/or descriptive data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; may require the ability to calculate decimals and utilize principles of fractions.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in dealing with situations involving repetitive or short cycle operations or duties carried out according to set procedures.
