The Temporary Payroll Support Specialist supports accurate and timely payroll processing by coordinating payroll activities, maintaining payroll data, assisting with system administration, and providing employee support. This temporary role offers flexibility in scheduling, with hours and days worked to be determined based on departmental needs and candidate availability. The position works closely with Payroll, Human Resources, Finance, and IT teams to ensure data integrity, compliance, and efficient payroll operations.

Responsibilities
- Coordinate payroll processing schedules and review payroll data to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Input, maintain, and audit employee payroll records, including multi-state tax setups, earnings, and deductions, while ensuring data confidentiality.
- Support payroll system configuration, updates, testing, troubleshooting, and user access management.
- Generate payroll reports and maintain payroll procedures, records, and documentation.
- Organize and maintain payroll records for internal and external audits.
- Assist with compliance activities, including multi-state payroll tax documentation, state registrations, and year-end processes (e.g., W-2 preparation and distribution).
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries and assist with payroll forms, issue resolution, and related support.
- Collaborate with Payroll, Human Resources, Finance, and IT teams to support efficient payroll operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1-3 years of payroll or payroll administration experience preferred, including exposure to multi-state payroll and tax processing (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Experience with HRIS and/or payroll systems (e.g., Banner, Workday, ADP).
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data management.
- Working knowledge of payroll processes, multi-state tax regulations, and wage-and-hour compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll reporting tools.
- Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting payroll system implementations, upgrades, or conversions.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC).
- Experience conducting or supporting payroll audits and compliance reviews.
