Job description

That’s No Moon is an independent AAA game development studio established in 2021 by veterans of some of the most recognizable and critically acclaimed creative teams in the world, including Naughty Dog, Infinity Ward, Santa Monica Studio, Bungie, PlayStation, and more. A remote-friendly studio with a central office and performance capture stage located in Los Angeles, That’s No Moon is creating the next generation of narrative-driven, genre-defining experiences built upon a culture of creativity, collaboration, responsible production practices, and individual empowerment. We are assembling a diverse team of passionate developers of a wide range of experience levels and backgrounds to help shape the future of our studio and projects.

We are looking for a Manager of Virtual Production that’s ready to run our ground-breaking motion capture facility and continue to create a world-class working environment for the team. Grounded, believable animations are pivotal to our game, and in this role, you will work with the virtual production and animation teams to build high-quality, cutting edge virtual production animation.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the setup, data infrastructure and maintenance of the stage and Lightstorm capture system. Propose and implement improvements to the department and workflow.
  • Oversee the daily prep of the studio, software and all related systems prior to shoots.
  • Supervise the virtual production team from preproduction, onset production through to final data delivery.
  • Ensure the stage is a safe working environment for all talent and crew.
  • Efficiently manage the department budget and future improvements to the stage and technology.
  • Ensure prop or set fabrication and construction, including 3D printing of custom props for use on set.
  • Supervise the preparation of the solving setups and calibrate the actors daily.
  • Supervise bespoke mocap structures that are created for (and during) a mocap shoot.
  • Manage the virtual production team to progress through their career growth plans.
  • As necessary, operate the motion capture system during shoots and/or process data after the shoot has wrapped, in Nuance or Motionbuilder.
Requirements & Skills
  • >5 years of Motion Capture experience, preferably in video game animation.
  • >5 years of DCC experience (e.g. Maya).
  • Lightstorm experience.
  • Experience working with SAG talent.
  • Adept at Motion Capture setup, marker sets, and skeleton solving setup creation.
  • Familiar with Linux and Windows.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills. Must be able to diagnose and solve issues with the software and hardware in use on the mocap stage.
  • Must be able to execute technically difficult work and maintain a good attitude under the pressure of on-set production.
  • Able to make adjustments in response to conditions on set and lead a team.
  • Ensure quality real-time camera, character and prop tracking data.
  • Technical scripting experience a plus.
Qualities
  • Shows a desire to innovate and improve efficiency.
  • Collaborative. Can create a positive and productive work environment, especially during live production capture.
  • Detail oriented, highly organized and able to handle a variety of tasks in an efficient manner.
