Valley Veterinary Emergency & Referral Center in Winchester, VA is hiring a full- time Veterinary Assistant to join our ER Team!
Compensation: $20-22/hr
Schedule:
  • 3 12-hour shifts
  • Weekends and holidays as needed

Position Overview:
Valley Veterinary Emergency & Referral Center is a 24/7 award-winning veterinary hospital seeking a dedicated Veterinary Assistant. Our center is a newly renovated, 13,000+ square foot facility with dedicated staff and state-of-the-art equipment (like digital radiography and endoscopy) to offer the highest level of emergency and critical care.
Minimum of 2 years' experience required.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Properly restrain animals.
  • Obtain a thorough history from pet owner.
  • Accurately measure and record each patient's weight and basic vitals (temp, pulse rate, and respiratory rate).
  • Assist in anesthesia induction and patient prep for surgical procedures
  • Clean and prep surgical packs and supplies
  • Efficiently set up, turn over and break down OR and prep areas
  • Understand triage and follow hospital policies regarding critical patients.
  • Using aseptic procedures, draw up injections for doctors or technicians to administer.
  • Properly package and store samples as needed.
  • Assist with routine exam room procedures.
  • Monitor patients' behavior.
  • Maintain a positive attitude, work well and collaboratively as a team. be able to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to multitask and produce efficiently under a heavy workload.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory and alert supervisor of items that are running low.
  • Maintain adequate interdepartmental communications regarding patient care and client issues.
