Temporary Vacation Rental Property Management information

What is temporary vacation rental property management?

Temporary vacation rental property management refers to the short-term oversight and care of vacation rental properties, such as homes or apartments, while the owner is unable to manage them. This service typically includes tasks like guest communication, check-in/check-out coordination, cleaning, maintenance, and ensuring the property meets local regulations. Property owners often hire temporary managers during peak seasons, personal absences, or when they need extra assistance. The goal is to provide a seamless and positive experience for guests while protecting the owner's investment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary vacation rental property manager?

To thrive as a Temporary Vacation Rental Property Manager, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience in hospitality or property management. Familiarity with property management software (like Guesty or Hostaway), booking platforms (such as Airbnb or Vrbo), and basic maintenance protocols is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and customer service orientation distinguish top performers in this role. These skills ensure efficient operations, guest satisfaction, and positive reviews, which are crucial for maximizing occupancy and revenue.

What are some common challenges faced in temporary vacation rental property management, and how can I prepare for them?

Effective communication with cleaning staff and maintenance teams is vital to ensure a smooth guest experience. Being organized, adaptable, and responsive to guest feedback can help you thrive in this role. Familiarity with booking platforms and property management software will also streamline daily operations.

Job description

We’re hiring a Short-Term Rental Operations Assistant/Manager
We’re looking for someone to help run the day-to-day operations of our vacation rental properties. This is a great fit for someone who is reliable, responsive, and has a keen eye for detail—someone who notices the little things that make a big difference for guests.
✨ What the role looks like:
- Guest communication (messages, questions, issue resolution)
- Coordinating cleaning schedules and turnovers
- Making sure properties are guest-ready and up to standard
- Performing quality checks and catching details others might miss
- Stepping in to assist with cleaning during busy times when needed
Schedule:
- Busy summer season: higher hours (can be near full-time)
- Off-season: ~20 hours per week
Pay:
- $16–$18/hour
- Additional pay when helping with cleaning
- Opportunity for bonuses based on performance and reliability
This is not a typical desk job—you’ll be out and about at times, helping keep everything running smoothly.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is quick to respond and communicates well
- Has a strong attention to detail and takes pride in their work
- Can take initiative and figure things out
- Is dependable and organized
- Is comfortable pitching in wherever needed
Experience in Airbnb, hospitality, cleaning, or property management is helpful, but not required.
