High school diploma or equivalent, two years of HVAC experience, and possession of a valid driver's license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage under the University of South Alabama. Completion of an HVAC training program may substitute for the required experience.

The University of South Alabama's Central Utilities department is seeking to hire an HVAC Mechanic I. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions
These are the job duties required of the position.
Essential Functions
  • Maintains operation of HVAC equipment consisting of water chillers, high temperature water boilers, air handling units, pumps, motors valves, pneumatic and electronic controls and other related equipment.
  • Monitors building spaces and controls temperature, humidity, and building pressure using an energy management computer system.
  • Receives service calls through the phone system, computer work order system and verbally by supervisor.
  • Determines corrective action needed and makes adjustments on the computer.
  • Works closely with the University police responding to emergencies on campus.
  • Responds to service calls and contacts appropriate personnel for needed repairs.
  • Assists in repairing HVAC equipment and the hold/cold water distribution systems underground and above ground.
  • Monitors color screen gauge controls.
  • Helps with preventative maintenance program in the department.
  • Moves items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Climbs ladders and works in hot and cold locations.
  • Drives University vehicles to and from work sites.
  • Relieves shift operators when they are off work, nights and weekends.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
  • Related duties as required.
