Job description

Description This is a temporary position available in the Public Works Department, CUE Bus Division. This position has the potential, but is not guaranteed, to transition to a part time benefited role upon successful completion of a 90-day temp assignment and availability of City funding. Work involves providing CUE passengers with safe and efficient operational service, providing bus service information and general municipal information, and collecting appropriate fares.

Work may involve nonstandard shifts. Work is performed under the general supervision of the CUE Operations Manager or the CUE Transit Supervisor and is reviewed through observation and through passenger response. Examples Of Duties Drives a passenger bus on an assigned route; collects fares and passes; may serve as a driver on charter runs or represent CUE at events as required.

Remains alert and conscious of safety risks throughout entire shift; exhibits care for wellbeing and safety of customers and other road users; follows all applicable traffic and vehicle laws. Follows assigned route and schedule as best as road conditions allow. Maintains cheerful and positive attitude towards customers, members of the public, and other co-workers; volunteers help and information when appropriate; exhibits dedication to customer service.

Provides information to passengers including bus schedules and routes; assists passengers in determining how to get to desired destination. Ensures passenger safety by enforcing rules of conduct and operation; checks bus for lost items and reports any if found. Conducts visual inspection and operational safety check of assigned vehicle; keeps alert for mechanical or other equipment problems requiring attention; reports repair needs; reports traffic hazards, accidents, and other conditions requiring attention.

The duties listed above are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. Qualifications Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.

Requires two years of transportation or bus operations or closely related experience. Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the operation of passenger buses or similar automotive equipment. Knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations applicable to equipment operation.

Knowledge of the hazards of equipment operation and of appropriate safety precautions. Knowledge of the geography of the city. Ability to operate assigned equipment in a safe manner and to adhere to time schedules.

Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner. Ability to communicate and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Skill in the operation of assigned equipment. Special Certifications and Licenses: Requires a valid Class B CDL with a P endorsement and airbrakes and a good driving record. Supplemental Information Must be available to operate a CUE Bus for at least 20 hours every two weeks during the CUE Bus's regular hours of operation: Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m

- 11:00 p.m. Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m

Sundays, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Selected candidates with an active CDL will receive a $1,400 bonus upon hire

(Paid per pay period, 26 pay periods per year). Available to work Mandatory Events, days, nights, weekends, and holidays if needed. CUE Drivers may be considered essential based on operational needs.
