Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Test Prep Tutor to provide individualized, in-person instruction to students preparing for standardized exams including HSPT, SAT, ACT, PSAT, SSAT, ISEE and AP exams. Tutors provide individualized instruction, develop customized study plans, teach effective test-taking strategies, and support students in building confidence and improving performance on exams.The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of these exams, excellent communication skills, and the ability to tailor instruction to each student's academic needs and learning style. We have an immediate need for tutors with HSPT and SAT experience.


Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and/or small-group test preparation for the exams.
  • Develop customized lesson plans based on each student's strengths, weaknesses, goals, and target test date.
  • Teach test-taking strategies, time management, critical reasoning, and effective approaches to different question types.
  • Review practice tests and homework, identify areas for improvement, and track student progress.
  • Build students' confidence while maintaining a positive, encouraging learning environment.
  • Communicate professionally with students and, when appropriate, parents regarding progress and recommendations.
  • Stay current with changes to test formats, scoring, and testing strategies.


Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience tutoring students for the HSPT, SAT, and ACT.
  • Strong knowledge of the content, structure, and strategies associated with all three exams.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent academic background preferred.
  • Prior experience working with middle- and/or high-school students.
  • Experience tutoring STEM subjects is a bonus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Patient, engaging, organized, and dependable.
  • Ability to explain challenging concepts clearly and adapt instruction to different learning styles.
  • Comfortable providing in-person instruction in McLean, VA.
  • Reliable transportation and availability for scheduled in-person sessions.
