Temporary Tech roles are typically short-term, contract-based positions requiring minimal certifications, ideal for quick staffing needs. IT Support Specialists often hold certifications and work in ongoing support roles within organizations. While both serve IT functions, Temporary Tech positions focus on immediate, short-term solutions, whereas IT Support Specialists provide ongoing technical support.

What types of projects or tasks can a Temporary Tech expect to handle, and how does the role typically integrate with permanent staff?

As a Temporary Tech, you may be assigned to a variety of technical projects, ranging from equipment setup and troubleshooting to assisting with software installations and user support. The specific tasks will depend on the organization's immediate needs, but adaptability and a willingness to quickly learn new systems are key. Temporary Techs often work closely with permanent IT staff, supporting their initiatives and ensuring continuity during peak periods or staff absences. Open communication and a collaborative attitude can help Temporary Techs quickly integrate and make valuable contributions to the team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Temporary Tech, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temporary Tech, you generally need a solid understanding of technical troubleshooting, basic IT or equipment maintenance skills, and a high school diploma or relevant technical certifications. Familiarity with ticketing systems, diagnostic tools, and specialized software or hardware relevant to the industry is often required. Strong problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and effective communication are important soft skills for this role. These skills and qualities ensure you can quickly address technical issues, support ongoing operations, and seamlessly integrate into various workplace environments.

What are Temporary Techs?

Temporary Techs are technology professionals hired on a short-term or contract basis to support organizations with specific IT needs or projects. They may assist with tasks such as troubleshooting hardware and software issues, setting up equipment, or providing technical support during peak periods. Temporary Techs offer flexibility for companies that need specialized skills for a limited time without committing to permanent hires. Their roles can vary widely depending on the employer’s requirements and the duration of the assignment.

Job description

Zions Bancorporation's Enterprise Technology and Operations (ETO) team is transforming what it means to work for a financial institution. With a commitment to technology and innovation, we have been providing our community, clients and colleagues the best experience possible for over 150 years. Help us transform our workforce of the future, today.

We are seeking a Technology Governance Manager to join Zions Bancorporation. This position ensures our technology practices comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards, drives technology governance strategy, and promotes a culture of compliance and risk management across the organization. It significantly impacts the integrity and security of technology operations, ensuring exceptional service to clients and the community.

The Technology Governance Manager will:

  • Partner across teams to analyze, adopt, and implement technology governance frameworks and policies.
  • Ensure and enable compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards through clear guidance and effective controls.
  • Support and continuously improve the governance function across all technology domains using datainformed practices.
  • Establish and oversee SDLC governance and thirdparty technology risk practices to ensure vendor solutions and delivery align with internal controls and regulations.
  • Identify, rationalize, and implement common control frameworks (e.g., NIST CSF/80053, ISO/IEC 27001, COBIT), including leveraging shared control libraries, to enable reusable, standardized controls that satisfy multiple regulatory and policy requirements.
  • Design and lead the implementation of automation and AIenabled solutions to enhance governance activities.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to embed governance practices into technology initiatives and projects.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on technology governance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Oversee the development, maintenance, and accessibility of governancerelated documentation, including clear, plainlanguage guidance where appropriate.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to staff and partners on governance policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Build and manage relationships with external auditors, regulators, and other oversight bodies.
  • Communicate and advocate for the value of technology governance and its role in delivering business outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Substantial experience in technology governance, risk management, or compliance (typically 4+ years), including partnering with software engineering and platform teams to embed governance practices into the software development lifecycle.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks and industry standards (e.g., ISO, NIST), ideally with experience supporting technology and software engineering organizations.
  • Experience leading risk assessments, audits, and compliance reviews for technology services, applications, or platforms.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders, including engineers, product managers, and business leaders.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CISA, CRISC, CGEIT) are a plus but not required.
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience; advanced degree welcomed but not required.

We recognize that skills and experience can be developed through many career paths. If you meet most of the requirements and are excited about this role, we encourage you to apply.

Visa Sponsorship:
This Technology Governance Manager is currently not eligible for employment visa sponsorship (e.g., H-1B visa). This includes, for example, situations where a candidate may have temporary work authorization while enrolled in school or upon graduation (e.g., CPT, OPT) but would need H-1B visa sponsorship within a few years of employment in order to maintain employment eligibility.
