Job Summary:
The Data Center Deployment Engineer/System Engineer is responsible for the efficient and accurate installation of server and network hardware within customer data centers. This role involves extensive travel to customer sites, where the engineer performs tasks such as racking and stacking server hardware, configuring network equipment, and interconnecting server clusters using both fiber and copper cabling.
The Data Center Deployment Engineer/System Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring that customer data centers are properly installed, organized, and interconnected, meeting all technical and operational requirements. This includes maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and coordination to support reliable and scalable infrastructure deployments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Includes the following essential duties and responsibilities (other duties may also be assigned):
• Travel to customer data centers, both local and remote, to perform hardware installations
• Rack and stack server hardware according to established guidelines, ensuring proper alignment, organization, and space utilization within racks
• Participate Rack Elevation, Cable layout, and Rack Location review.
• Deploy and overseeing vendor coordination during power commissioning,
• Serve as the primary on-site technical point of contact, between customers, vendors,
• Mentored and guided Systems Engineers, Technicians, and Service team members.
• Install and configure network equipment, including switches, routers, and firewalls, in accordance with manufacturer specifications
• Ensure cable pathways are clean, organized, and properly labeled to support efficient maintenance and troubleshooting
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of server and network hardware components, configurations, and installation procedures
• Troubleshoot hardware and cabling issues, diagnosing, and resolving problems encountered during installation
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of hardware installations, cable layouts, and network configurations
• Communicate effectively with customers to understand technical requirements and ensure satisfaction with installation deliverables
• Collaborate with customer teams to coordinate installation schedules, downtime windows, and logistics
• Adhere to industry best practices and data center standards for hardware installation, cable management, and network connectivity
• Ensure compliance with all safety guidelines and protocols during installation activities
• Perform customer handover checklist
• Perform quality checks on installed hardware and cabling to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and long-term integrity
• Address any deficiencies or issues promptly by taking appropriate corrective actions
• Plan and coordinate travel logistics, including itineraries and accommodations for frequent customer site visits
• Manage travel-related expenses and documentation, maintaining accurate records for reimbursement
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field preferred
• 2+ years of experience in data center server, rack, and cabling deployments preferred
• Proven experience in data center hardware installation, cable management, and network setup
• Strong knowledge of server hardware components, network devices, and cabling standards
• Proficiency in using hand and power tools for hardware installation
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and diagrams
• Excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail
• Strong communication and customer-facing skills
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively, particularly while traveling
• Physical capability to lift and maneuver heavy equipment and perform installation tasks in a data center environment
• Flexibility to travel frequently and work outside normal business hours as required. Minimum 50% travel is expected.
Salary Range
$84,000 - $134,000
The salary offered will depend on several factors, including your location, level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation, such as participation in bonus and equity award programs.
