Job description

Aquatics Lifeguard

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Aquatics Coordinator, assists in the management and supervision of the general operation of the aquatics facility, while performing the responsibilities of a lifeguard.

The following tasks are essential for this position. Incumbents in this classification may not perform all of these tasks, or may perform similar related tasks not listed here.

  1. Assists in supervision and scheduling of lifeguards.
  2. Assists in facility reservation procedures.
  3. Conducts daily briefing sessions with lifeguards.
  4. Assists in conducting and participating in various training sessions.
  5. Maintains rescue equipment.
  6. Communicates with swim school and other aquatic instructors.
  7. Administers First Aid, CPR, or rescuing swimmers as needed.
  8. Enforces rules and regulations of facility.
  9. Oversees the maintenance of pool, including chemical balance, flow/filtration, heater/solar, etc.
  10. Guards on deck, as needed.
  11. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge, Skill and Ability:

  • Basic lifeguard skills.

Skill and Ability to:

  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Perform physical water test indicating competence of rescuing skills.
  • Stay alert and attentive and assert good judgment.
  • Remain patient and understanding in dealing with patrons of all ages.
  • Maintain open lines of communication.

Training and Experience:

  • Three years of previous aquatics experience is required.

Must have current CPR, 1st Aid and Lifeguarding Certifications.

This position is a temporary position and not eligible to participate in any benefit programs of the City, except those mandated by federal or state law. Must participate in a PARS Alterantive Retirement System 457 Plan as a replacement for Social Security.
