Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and self-directed Piping Design Technician to independently develop complex piping designs, lead critical portions of project scopes, and coordinate directly with engineers across disciplines. In this role, you will provide technical expertise on model quality, piping operability, and design standards while supporting workshare execution and change management.
This is a senior-level technical role requiring deep domain knowledge in industrial processing environments (such as Oil & Gas, Chemical, Pharmaceutical, or Advanced Technology facilities). You will leverage your advanced Autodesk Revit capabilities to build accurate piping models, review model health, interpret P&IDs, and ensure strict compliance with project specifications. If you excel at autonomous problem-solving and driving quality across multi-disciplinary engineering teams, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities

• Technical Documentation: Review and interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), vendor equipment drawings, and engineering specifications to drive design layouts.
• Operability & Quality: Provide technical input regarding piping operability, maintenance clearances, material selection, and support placement.
Coordination & Project Leadership
• Multi-Disciplinary Integration: Coordinate design layouts directly with mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil engineering teams to eliminate spatial clashes.
• Scope & Estimating Support: Contribute technical insights to project scoping, workshare execution plans, estimating efforts, and change-management discussions.
• Quality Control: Support QA/QC workflows, model health reviews, and enforce consistency across project deliverables and drafting standards.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Education: Associate's degree in Design Technology or a related field (or equivalent practical design experience of 2+ years beyond base requirements).
• Experience Baseline: Minimum of 10+ years of industrial piping design experience within process sectors (e.g., Oil & Gas, Chemical, Pharmaceutical, or Advanced Technology facilities).
• Technical Mastery:
oMinimum of 3+ years of solid, hands-on Revit proficiency specifically focused on piping design and modeling.
oComprehensive understanding of piping specifications, construction materials, equipment interfaces, and layout fundamentals.
oProven ability to read and interpret P&IDs and complex engineering documentation.
• Core Competencies: Demonstrated ability to work independently with general oversight; exceptional organizational skills; strong communication and teamwork abilities within multi-disciplinary environments.
Preferred Attributes
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology or a similar technical curriculum.
• Advanced Revit expertise, including custom family/part development, template management, and troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of pipe stress considerations and how thermal/dynamic loads influence routing and support design.
• Prior leadership experience guiding piping design teams, overseeing model consistency, and mentoring junior technicians.
