Aspirus Specialty Pharmacy in Wausau, WI is seeking a PHARMACY LIAISON to join our PHARMACY team!
The Pharmacy Liaison serves as a primary source of communication with patients, insurance payers, patient support foundations, physician and clinic offices, Patient Financial Services, drug distributors, and manufacturers. This position assists patients with access to resources to lessen the impact of medication therapy socially and economically.
This position represents Aspirus Pharmacies during initial phone contact by providing patients, patient families, insurance providers, physicians and other providers, clinic and office staff with information pertaining to the filling, processing, reimbursement, payment, and assistance with the provision of specialty pharmaceuticals.
This position also handles the technical dispensing duties within the pharmacy and provides support under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, ensuring optimal pharmaceutical care.
HOURS: Full Time or 1.0 FTE, 80 hours every pay period, 8-hour weekday day shifts
DUTIES & EXPECTATIONS:
  • Identifies opportunities to improve patient experience and participate in projects/programs designed to enhance service delivery and patient satisfaction.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve the Environment of Care, patient and staff safety. Participates in projects and programs designed to create a safe environment to avoid error.
  • Maintains department specific accountabilities as determined, maintained, and housed within each unit's scope of service as applicable.
  • Maintains compliance with all Aspirus policies and procedures, including but not limited to, Aspirus Employee Handbook, Aspirus Code of Conduct and Service Excellence Standards.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new team members as needed.
  • Operate pharmacy technology systems and electronic health records.
  • Perform clerical tasks including documentation and vendor coordination.
  • Enhance patient experience through service improvement initiatives
  • Deliver exceptional customer service using clear, compassionate communication.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication and stays informed on departmental, facility and system updates.
  • May be required to travel to other Aspirus locations.
  • Under delegated authority from the Specialty Pharmacists, provides initial outreach to patients identified by providers to need specialty pharmaceutical therapy to promote Aspirus Pharmacies and support the patient's emotional and financial needs
  • Maintains excellent communication between patients, PBMs, dispensing pharmacy, and providers to support the dispensing of specialty pharmaceuticals
  • Processes Medication Prior Authorizations and navigates PBM Formularies to optimize medication selection
  • Contacts patients after initial outreach to ensure medication therapy is still necessary and can be processed for refills
  • Collaborates with the clinic teams to provide necessary medication prior authorization support
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of third-party insurance plans, PBM drug formulary requirements
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the unit's scope of service.
Required Education:
  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • State Pharmacy Technician License/Certificate and completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Certification program
Preferred Education:
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in healthcare or customer service-related field.
  • National Certificate (CPhT or equivalent)
Required Experience:
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • A thorough knowledge of drugs and medical terminology
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • One of the following:
  • A minimum of 1-year previous experience as a pharmacy technician
  • 1-year previous experience in a specialty pharmacy or PBM environment
Preferred Experience:
  • Comfortable with technology and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong, expert-level knowledge of insurance requirements as well as co-pay assistance programs for each specific drug and/or disease state
  • Understanding of 340B program and how it impacts the Specialty Pharmacy
Required Licensure:
  • Michigan: Temporary license required before first day; full license within 365 days and continuously maintained by employee.
  • Minnesota: Active Pharmacy Technician Registration required before the first day and continuously maintained by the employee.
  • Wisconsin: Pharmacy Technician Registration application must be completed before first day and fully obtained within six (6) months and continuously maintained by employee.
