Job description


Bargaining Unit: TEMP
Work Year: Saturday and Sunday, plus all Holidays 
Work Day: 2pm to 10pm or 10pm to 6am
Salary: $20 per hour 
Job Summary
The  Temp Security Technician routinely patrols Anchorage School District property to prevent vandalism and burglary, assists in arming security systems, investigates issues, and implements board policy relating to security.
Job Requirements
The following are required:
  1. A high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. The individual must have a clean driving record and be readily able to locate and drive to any and all ASD facilities with either a district-provided or personal vehicle.
  3. The individual must be able to readily enter and egress vehicles and buildings, perform facility walk-throughs and inspections, etc.
  4. This position requires the wear of distinctive security officer clothing, to be provided at the employee's expense.
  5. Must have knowledge of office procedures and responsibilities.
  6. Must be able to maintain a neatly and legibly written daily log of activities.
  7. Must have the capability to prepare and interpret written instructions and reports, and to write clear and concise correspondence, memoranda, and reports.
  8. Must have the knowledge of and experience with computerized security alarm systems as well as single-line facility layouts for purposes of identifying breach points, sources of trouble, etc.
  9. Must be able to train others in the use of computerized security alarm systems.
  10. Must be able to perceive and react to possible problems in the field.
  11. Must be willing to work variable and flexible hours, day or night, including weekends and holidays.
  12. Must be able to remain alert and work well under stress.
  13. Must have the ability to operate a Windows computer and Microsoft Office Professional software.
Note: This position does not require and does not allow for the carrying of displayed or concealed weapons. Weapons are not permitted in school buildings or on school grounds, except as allowed for sworn law enforcement personnel such as officers with the Anchorage Police Department.
Essential Job Functions
  1. Implements Anchorage School Board policies as they pertain to security operations.
  2. Receives alarm calls from monitoring agency and determines and initiates appropriate response, whether by self, the security company, or the Anchorage Police Department.
  3. Provides routine patrolling of ASD property to prevent vandalism and burglary.
  4. Assists ASD custodians and others in resolving alarm system arming problems.
  5. Checks out late-to-close situations at ASD facilities.
  6. Investigates vandalism, theft, and break-ins. Works with local law enforcement as appropriate.
  7. Advises the director of Operations and other ASD officials regarding incidents.
  8. Maintains basic records of all security activities while on shift. Follows up on selected items as requested by supervisors.
  9. Collaborates with ASD electronic technicians regarding the repair and maintenance of alarm equipment, troubleshooting activities, etc.
  10. Helps organize and implement high school graduation week security enhancements.
  11. Helps implement and maintain Camper Host Security Program activities at selected schools.
  12. Conducts investigations of security complaints originating on ASD property.
  13. Advises the director of Operations of security problem areas that require special attention.
 
Physical /Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
