Salary: $21.71-$32.07 DOE

Job Title: Tree Care Technician: Climber (Levels 14)


Location: The Urban Foresters, Austin, TX Branch
Department: Operations
Reports To: Foreman


Role Objective

To execute precise aerial tree care and removals through the expert application of climbing, rigging, and chainsaw techniques, ensuring the structural integrity of the canopy and the absolute safety of the ground crew and property.


Core Responsibilities (All Levels)

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform strenuous manual labor in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, wind) and maintain "work-positioning" for extended periods.
  • Situational Awareness: Constant monitoring of the "Drop Zone" (DZ) and the location of ground crew, power lines, and structural obstacles.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Daily inspection and basic field maintenance of chainsaws, power pruners, and climbing hardware (rope inspections, sharpening teeth, checking tension, cleaning air filters).
  • Regulatory Compliance: Strict adherence to ANSI Z133 safety standards (or local equivalent) for arboricultural operations.


Qualifications and Skills

  • Physical Capability: Ability to lift 50+ lbs, sustain high-intensity cardio, and maintain "three points of contact" while working at heights.
  • Safety Credentials: Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification and a proven understanding of ANSI Z133 safety standards.
  • Emergency Readiness: Ability to complete an Aerial Rescue training module (even as a trainee).
  • Valid Texas Drivers License
  • Tool Competency: Ability to complete "Saw Safety" training, covering reactive forces (kickback, push, and pull).
  • Climbing Competency: Ability to pass the Pre-Climber examination.
