The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary
Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Department of Medicine, seeks an experienced Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join the outpatient practice of the NYP/Columbia University Center for Adolescent Rheumatology. The APP will work collaboratively and autonomously under the management and direction of the Center's Director, alongside physicians, APP peers, registered nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team within the Division of Rheumatology.
Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive and autonomous care to patients.
  • Obtain patient histories, perform comprehensive and targeted physical examinations, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and manage chronic and acute patient conditions.
  • Triage and manage patient clinical questions and concerns.
  • Prescribe medications and meticulously document all patient encounters in the EMR.
  • Obtain and review outside records/reports, collaborating with the physician to revise treatment plans as needed.
  • Counsel and educate patients and families on disease processes and care management.
  • Provide educational support regarding various treatment protocols.
  • Order, supervise, and provide clinical support for patients receiving IV medications in the infusion center.
  • Support multiple clinical research studies through the coordination and implementation of clinical trials and protocols.
  • Screen and enroll patients in clinical trials according to research protocols.
  • Independently perform study-related procedures and maintain accurate case report forms.
  • Supervise, train, and manage research staff and student volunteers.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a relevant field (Nursing or Physician Assistant Studies) plus one to two years of experiencein a hospital or relevant clinical setting.
  • Demonstrated training and experience in the care of children and young adults.
  • Current New York State licensure (or proof of application) as a Registered Professional Nurse/Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • Relevant board certification (FNP or PA).
  • Current certifications BCLS.
  • Current DEA and NPI registrations.
  • Proficiency with computer-based programs, including EMR systems, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Rheumatology, particularly with adolescent patients.
Other Requirements
  • Medical clearance and participation in Medical Surveillance program required
    • Contact with patients and/or human research subjects
    • Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
