Job description

This position functions as the region authority regarding soils engineering, providing expertise on the most complex geotechnical problems in the Metro Region. Responsibilities include design and review of pavement structures, foundations, Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) walls, reinforced soil slopes, cofferdams, sheet piling (with or without bracing), global stability, settlement, and temporary earth retention for part‑width construction, bridge cofferdams, foundation interactions, and overall constructability with emphasis on geotechnical components.

Compensation. Salary range reflects the minimum to maximum for a Transportation Engineer Licensed Specialist 13 position.

Remote work and alternative schedule requests may be considered based on operational needs and within established limits.

Required Education and Experience

Education: Bachelor of Science degree in engineering.

Experience: Four years of professional experience equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including:

  • Two years equivalent to a Transportation Engineer P11 or
  • One year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 12 or a Transportation Engineer Licensed 12.
Additional Requirements and Information
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Possess a registered professional engineering license as required by the State of Michigan.
