The Idea Forge, part of the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) at CU Boulder, encourages applications for the Temporary Support Engineer position! The Support Engineer is a temporary position in the Idea Forge, a design and fabrication facility in the College of Engineering and Applied Science. This position provides support to the Idea Forge and Senior Design programs, assisting with administrative work, front desk support, facility maintenance, and curricular support.

Who We Are

The Idea Forge is a prototyping facility passionate about design and innovation. We are a flexible, cross-disciplinary collaborative space where students can imagine, design, build, and test products and solutions to meet a range of societal and customer needs. The space includes Design Center Colorado and supports student teams working on invention and innovation as part of courses, as well as design and development driven by entrepreneurial-minded individuals and groups. With all these students working side-by-side, the Idea Forge boosts student learning through collaborative, hands-on experience, while supporting industry interaction through scheduled programming as well as spontaneous exchanges.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
  • Provide direct consultative support to students navigating the utilization of Idea Forge technological resources.
  • Serve as part of the ME Senior Design technical support team, coordinating with course instructors and meeting regularly to provide engineering technical guidance.
  • Assist with needs assessments, evaluate enhancement opportunities, and implement strategic improvements to equipment inventory, software resources, and service offerings for student, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist with facilities and equipment assets within the Idea Forge, ensuring standard operating procedures, safety compliance protocols, and equipment maintenance, while coordinating student training and operational oversight.
What You Should Know

This is a part-time, temporary role working 20 hours per week. We anticipate this role lasting 9 months.

What We Can Offer

The hire rate for this role is $25.00 per hour.

What We Require
  • Bachelor's of Science in mechanical engineering.
  • Previous experience working in Idea Forge.
What You Will Need
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Technical knowledge of a variety of engineering topics, such as: manufacturing, fabrication, design, and analysis.
What We Would Like You to Have
  • Previous experience with ME Senior Design program.
  • Previous experience working in CU Boulder Mechanical Engineering and/or CU Boulder Idea Forge.
