Job description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), General Internal Med & Population Science, is seeking a Clinical Research Dietitian. The Clinical Research Dietitian will assist with other research-related duties such as data collection, participant communications, and project coordination.

General Responsibilities

To conduct nutrition research within the UAB General Internal Med & Population Science by designing and implementing dietary protocols and interventions, and working directly with research participants to ensure adherence to study requirements.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Provides behavior change counseling to participants enrolled in nutrition, weight loss, and weight management clinical trials.

  2. Works with study participants to establish goals and monitor progress throughout the study.

  3. Monitors and tracks participant data, including anthropometrics, diet, and physical activity.

  4. Communicates with study participants to ensure proper completion of data collection.

  5. Screens potential research participants to assess the feasibility of study participation.

  6. Communicates study expectations with participants and trains participants on the use of various web-based technologies to monitor weight, diet, and physical activity, and other lifestyle factors.

  7. Evaluates participants' eligibility based on study criteria.

  8. Manages the coordination of study activities such as scheduling study visits, communicating with participants and other study staff, preparing study materials, and tracking study progress.

  9. Attends weekly study-related meetings to plan and collaborate on project activities.

  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Annual Salary Range:   $52,555 - $85,400

Master's degree in human nutrition, food and nutrition, dietetics, or nutrition education required, if licensed on or after 01/01/2024; OR a Bachelor's degree in human nutrition, food and nutrition, dietetics, or food systems management is required if licensed on or prior to 12/31/2023. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed (active or temporary) as a Dietitian with the State of Alabama Board of Examiners for Dietetic/Nutrition Practice required.

Preferences

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of clinical dietetics and medical nutrition therapy.

  • Understanding of metabolic and nutritional science principles, dietary assessments, and nutrition intervention protocols used in research settings.

  • Proficient with computer systems, related software, and data entry.

  • Verbal and written communication skills.

  • Interpersonal skills.

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.

  • Adaptability to a fast-paced, changing work environment.

  • Skilled in the use of REDCap software for research data collection.

  • Skilled in the use of Excel.

  • Experience with nutrition or behavioral counseling.
