Job description

Job Overview:

Performs laboring work as required. Workers who have acquired the necessary skills and training to complete building and construction related jobs. Duties differ, but may include: pouring concrete, carpentry, using power tools, job site clean-up, erecting scaffolding and assisting specialized workers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Superintendent, Foreman, Carpenters, or other tradespeople on-site.
  • Clean up the worksites from debris and machinery.
  • Handle and transport materials, i.e., cement.
  • Handle power tools and materials, i.e., such as saws and drills.
  • Help with setting up and transferring temporary structures, i.e., scaffolding.
  • Report issues with equipment or unsafe conditions.
  • Builds forms or structures using bricks, concrete and stone, and the repair of same.
  • Performs other duties as described under Helper.
  • Will be expected to perform miscellaneous duties which may occur from day to day.

Position Requirements:

  • Follow verbal and written directions and plans.
  • Responsible for the health and safety of others. Practice good safety habits.
  • Perform a variety of duties which may often change.
  • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
  • Knowledge of trade tools, equipment, materials, methods, and techniques
  • High school diploma preferred, and on-the-job training required. May require driver’s license.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, walk, and work at heights for extended periods of time.
  • Use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and manipulate objects.
  • Lift and carry materials weighing 50 to 100 pounds.
  • Climb up and down ladders, scaffolds, and other objects while carrying tools and equipment.
  • Vision – ability to see details at close range and details at a distance (naturally or
  • with correction) and distinguish colors.

Work Environment:

  • Wear protective or safety equipment, i.e., safety boots/shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats.
  • Work in dusty or dirty surroundings.
  • May be exposed to high levels of noise, grease, dust, and a variety of substances that are typically associated with a construction site.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50 lbs – 100lbs)
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.
