Job description

Job Title: 2nd Shift CNC Lathe Machinist

Job Description

This role focuses on performing full CNC lathe set-ups in a precision job shop environment on 2nd shift. You will work with a wide variety of stainless and exotic materials, troubleshoot and edit programs at the machine, and consistently hold tight tolerances of +/- 0.0002 on complex parts, including very small components. The position offers the opportunity to work with advanced multi-axis, live-tooling lathes and contribute to high-precision aerospace and medical machining projects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full CNC lathe set-ups in a job shop environment on 2nd shift, including new job and repeat job set-ups.
  • Set up and operate CNC lathes, including machines with twin-turret and dual spindle configurations.
  • Troubleshoot CNC lathe machines and resolve issues that arise during set-up and production.
  • Read, interpret, and work from complex blueprints and drawings to manufacture precision parts.
  • Set machines to consistently hold tight tolerances of +/- 0.0002 on a variety of part sizes, including parts as small as a fingernail.
  • Work with a wide range of materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, Inconel, titanium, brass, and other exotic metals.
  • Edit CNC programs at the machine as needed to optimize performance, quality, and efficiency.
  • Use live tooling and multi-axis capabilities on applicable lathes to complete complex machining operations.
  • Perform an average of one set-up per shift, with the flexibility to complete more depending on job complexity, run length, and part requirements.
  • Manage set-ups that may range from short to extended durations, including scenarios such as a four-hour set-up for a one-hour run.
  • Run production quantities that can vary from small lots of around 100 parts to larger runs up to approximately 5,000 parts.
  • Apply knowledge of tooling applications for exotic metals to select, pre-set, and use appropriate tools for each job.
  • Read and understand CNC programs and operational layouts as required to ensure accurate machining.
  • Understand and implement tooling requirements to effectively set up and operate machines within the department.
  • Collaborate with team members in a clean job-shop environment, supporting cross-training and assisting where needed.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of CNC lathe set-up experience in a production or job shop environment.
  • Minimum 2 years of machining experience in a medical or aerospace environment holding tolerances of +/- 0.0002.
  • Proven ability to set up and operate CNC lathes, including experience with twin-turret and dual spindle machines.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Experience editing CNC programs directly at the machine.
  • Capability to work with very small parts, including components approximately the size of a fingernail.
  • Understanding of tooling requirements to set up and operate CNC machines, including pre-setting tools.
  • Ability to read and understand CNC programs and operational layouts as required for production.
  • Experience working with stainless steel, aluminum, Inconel, titanium, brass, and other exotic materials.
  • Comfort working with multi-axis and live-tooling CNC lathes.
  • Familiarity with Fanuc-controlled CNC lathes and job shop machining environments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with live tooling or multi-axis CNC lathe operations is preferred.
  • Knowledge of tooling applications for exotic metals is a plus.
  • Experience in aerospace or medical machining environments is highly beneficial.
  • Experience with CNC lathe brands such as Puma, Daewoo, and Doosan is advantageous.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, cross-trained environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining tight tolerances and high-quality standards.

Why Work Here?

You will join a climate-controlled, exceptionally clean facility that supports long-term careers, as reflected by an average employee tenure of over 10 years.
