The Storage Platform Engineer (SPE) builds and supports modern data infrastructure that enables advanced business capabilities across AWS, Azure, and on premise. The SPE manages cloud storage services, including AWS (S3, EBS, EFS, FSx), Azure (Blob Storage, Azure Files, Managed Disks, Data Lake Storage), and Azure Local (Storage Spaces Direct, Azure Managed Disks). The role also supports PG&E enterprise block and file storage platforms used for mission-critical, high-performance, and file-based workloads, including Dell PowerMax, Dell PowerFlex, Dell PowerStore, DellUnity 380F, IBM FlashSystem, IBM SVC, Elastic Cloud Storage, Power Vault Storage, Cisco MDS SAN fabric technologies, and Dell PowerScale/Isilon NAS. The role focuses on designing reliable storage pipelines and storage structures that support analytics, AI, and machine learning workloads. The SPE also integrates AI capabilities into storage platforms to improve automation, optimization, and predictive maintenance.

The role includes developing AI-driven workflows that support storage maintenance and performance tuning. Infrastructure provisioning for storage resources is managed through Terraform, including multi-cloud resource provisioning, lifecycle policies, encryption, replication, and access control as code. Deployment automation is implemented through Azure DevOps pipelines, including storage provisioning, backup validation, and environment promotion from DEV to PROD.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve storage incidents across arrays, fabrics, file systems, cloud storage accounts, managed disks, snapshots, replication services, backup dependencies, and connectivity paths.
  • Partner with application, database, compute, network, cybersecurity, cloud, and vendor teams to analyze requirements, resolve performance issues, support deployments, and improve storage service reliability.
  • Implement storage protection capabilities, including snapshots, replication, cloning, encryption, retention policies, immutable storage, and recovery validation to support disaster recovery and ransomware resilience.
  • Implement and maintain storage security controls across on-premises and cloud platforms, including role-based access control, least-privilege permissions, encryption at rest and in transit, secure key management, network segmentation, private endpoints, and secure storage configuration standards.
  • Partner with cybersecurity, governance, risk, compliance, and audit teams to support vulnerability remediation, access reviews, logging, monitoring, policy enforcement, data classification, retention requirements, and regulatory compliance for storage services.
  • Develop and maintain automation, scripts, infrastructure-as-code modules, and reusable deployment patterns for storage provisioning, monitoring, lifecycle policies, replication, access controls, and environment promotion.
  • Plan and execute storage lifecycle activities, including firmware/software upgrades, hardware refreshes, platform migrations, end-of-service-life remediation, capacity forecasting, cost optimization, and asset inventory validation.
  • Support migration from legacy or on-premises storage platforms to cloud-native and hybrid storage architectures, including assessment, dependency mapping, cutover planning, validation, rollback planning, and post-migration optimization.
