A successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research projects in a world-class research environment, gaining valuable experience with the relevant technologies that prepare them well for future positions in academia or industry. We will also provide individual career development and support, as well as a collaborative research community.
Dr. Ding has made substantial contributions to the field of biomedical engineering. Specifically, Dr. Ding's research has focused on the development of novel optical imaging techniques along with computational methods for cardiovascular study. With special emphasis on cardiac structure and function, Dr. Ding established an interdisciplinary platform including light-sheet / light-field imaging-based acquisition, and machine learning-based image interpretation. His research addresses the most pressing issues in understanding cardiac injury and regeneration in both fundamental and clinical fields. Dr. Ding believes the integration of genetic models with advanced engineering will provide new mechanical and developmental insights into cardiac contractility and ventricular remodeling. Dr. Ding was a recipient of the NIH Stephen Katz Award, K99/R00 Award, and AHA Career Development Award. The conducive environment at UT Dallas and UT Southwestern provides trainees with unique opportunities to collaborate on research that spans from basic science to clinical translations. This program emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach, combining expertise in optical engineering and life sciences.
Minimum Education and Experience

Ph.D in a related field.

Preferred Education and Experience
The ideal candidate must hold a PhD degree and have a strong background in one or more of the following areas: physics / optics, optical engineering, microscopy, computer science, bioinformatics, and biochemistry.
The candidate must also have enthusiasm, excellent critical thinking skills, an ability to work well both independently and as part of a team, and proficient in written and oral English communication. Prior experience with Zemax / MATLAB / Python / LabVIEW / Solidworks/ C#, zebrafish / mouse / organoid models, and cardiovascular study would be an advantage.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop structured-illumination light-sheet / light-field microscopy
  • Customize machine learning / deep learning methods for image reconstruction and segmentation
  • Conduct optical imaging experiments on animal models including zebrafish and mice
  • Establish a platform for interactive data interpretation for XR applications.
