Job description


Rosalyn Yalow Charter School is seeking an exceptional Lead Middle School Math Teacher to help launch and lead mathematics instruction as we expand into middle school. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly effective math educator who is passionate about developing strong mathematical thinkers and establishing a culture of excellence from the ground up.
The Lead Middle School Math Teacher will be responsible for delivering rigorous, engaging mathematics instruction while helping shape the vision, curriculum, and instructional practices for Yalow's middle school mathematics program. The ideal candidate is a strong instructional leader with deep content knowledge, a passion for data-driven instruction, and experience implementing the Singapore Math approach to develop conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and mathematical fluency.
Starting Salary: $114,000 - $138,500
Specific Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
  • Deliver exceptional standards-aligned mathematics instruction for middle school students.
  • Implement the Singapore Math instructional framework with fidelity, emphasizing conceptual understanding, visual models, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving.
  • Develop engaging lessons that challenge students to think critically and apply mathematical concepts to real-world situations.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners while maintaining high academic expectations.
  • Build a strong mathematics culture that encourages curiosity, perseverance, and confidence.

Student Achievement
  • Use formative, benchmark, and summative assessment data to monitor student progress and drive instructional decisions.
  • Analyze student performance data to identify trends, adjust instruction, and accelerate student growth.
  • Develop and implement intervention plans for students who need additional support while providing enrichment opportunities for advanced learners.
  • Maintain ambitious academic goals and consistently monitor progress toward mastery.

Collaboration & Leadership
  • Serve as the lead mathematics educator for the middle school program, helping establish instructional expectations and best practices.
  • Collaborate with school leadership and fellow teachers to ensure vertical alignment between elementary and middle school mathematics instruction.
  • Share effective instructional strategies, resources, and best practices with colleagues to strengthen mathematics instruction across the school.
  • Participate actively in curriculum planning, professional learning communities, and ongoing professional development.

Family & Community Engagement
  • Maintain regular communication with families regarding student achievement, academic progress, and strategies for supporting learning at home.
  • Foster positive relationships with students and families while creating a classroom culture built on respect, accountability, and high expectations.

Qualifications
Strong candidates will possess:
  • A strong belief in the mission of Rosalyn Yalow Charter School and the belief that every student can achieve at high levels.
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Valid New York State Teaching Certification appropriate for middle school mathematics.
  • Minimum of five years of successful mathematics teaching experience, preferably in an urban or charter school setting.
  • Demonstrated success improving mathematics achievement through data-driven instruction.
  • Experience teaching or implementing Singapore Math, or a willingness to become an expert in the instructional model.
  • Deep understanding of middle school mathematics content, mathematical practices, and standards-aligned instruction.
  • Exceptional classroom management and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • A growth mindset and commitment to continuous professional learning.
