One Cross Community Health is a growing rural healthcare organization committed to providing quality, compassionate care to the communities we serve. We are looking for an experienced Medical Billing Specialist to join our team and help ensure accurate, timely, and efficient billing operations.

Position Summary

The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for processing insurance claims, maintaining accurate patient accounts, following up on outstanding balances and denied claims, and supporting the overall revenue cycle process.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, dependable, and experienced in medical billing and coding. This position requires someone who can work independently while also being a positive and collaborative member of our team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, submit, and process insurance claims and patient service bills.
  • Review patient accounts for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain accurate patient information, including insurance details, diagnoses, services, billing information, and correspondence.
  • Reconcile patient accounts and monitor payment activity.
  • Follow up on unpaid, rejected, and denied claims.
  • Research and resolve billing discrepancies and claim issues.
  • Review and update billing and coding information in accordance with Rural Health Clinic policies and procedures.
  • Perform quality control reviews on new and existing accounts.
  • Request medical records and documentation from outside agencies when needed.
  • Generate and maintain reports related to amounts billed, payments received, outstanding balances, and other billing activity.
  • Maintain accurate and organized billing records.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, insurance companies, healthcare providers, staff, and outside agencies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all applicable healthcare regulations.
  • Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with patients, staff, insurance companies, and the public.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including professional emails and correspondence.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
  • Working knowledge of:
  • CPT coding
  • ICD-10 coding
  • Medical terminology
  • Basic anatomy and physiology
  • Insurance billing and reimbursement processes

Preferred Experience & Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • At least 3 years of medical billing and/or coding experience preferred.
  • Experience with ICD-10 coding preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a medical office, physician practice, or Rural Health Clinic preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) and practice management systems preferred.
