Starting Salary Range: $15.68

Position Summary: The Embedded Tutor will support JCCC by serving as an academic support personnel member who works alongside instructors in the classroom settings to enhance student learning.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma with successful completion of specific courses.
  • Must be enrolled in and maintain at least 3 credit hours at JCCC and 2.5 cumulative GPA through the duration of employment in the position.
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to listen, understand and demonstrate patience when working with students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Provide current or previous JCCC math instructor's information for recommendation.

Position details include but are not limited to:

  • Student Academic Support: Assist students in understanding concepts. Encourage critical thinking and problem-solving through guided questioning. Offer help to students who appear disengaged, confused, or lost during class. Focus on guiding students toward understanding rather than providing direct answers. Support students requiring accommodation under the instructor's direction. 
  • Instructional Alignment: Ensure all support strategies reflect the instructor's teaching style and course objectives.
  • Observation and Reporting: Observe and report common student challenges or misconceptions (e.g., raise common questions students may have but are not willing to ask). Notify the instructor of any unusual student behavior or concerns. Share observations and feedback that may inform instructional adjustments. 
  • Communication and Collaboration: Maintain open and regular communication with the instructor. Seek clarification when unsure about expectations or procedures. Communicate respectfully and professionally with students and the professor.
  • Online Learning Support: In an online class, tutors can participate in online discussions by answering questions and fostering communication. 
  • Professional and Ethical Responsibilities: Maintain confidentiality regarding student performance and behavior. 
  • Other duties as assigned
