Job description

Computing Engineer/Software Developer -AI/ML, GUI Development, Custom Cobot Control - Pinellas Park, FL, USA
The Opportunity
Custom Manufacturing & Engineering, Inc. (CME) is looking for a Software Engineer to develop custom collaborative robot (cobot) control integrations, artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) applications, and related GUIs for advanced manufacturing and inspection environments. You'll work with cobots (UR eSeries and others), simulation platforms (NVIDIA Isaac Sim, Gazebo/ROS2), and cutting-edge AI/ML tools to create scalable solutions that improve manufacturing automation and product quality.
What You'll Do
  • Internally develop and/or support iterative enhancements to new in-house software applications/tools for business and technical operations.
  • Full-stack development duties for an AI and machine learning role, deploying, scaling, and integrating machine learning models into user-facing applications.
  • Develop and deploy ML models (e.g., LLMs, CNNs, GANs, ResNets) for deep learning in support of computer vision, inspection data, and ERP/operations use cases and improvements; or for engineering development/R&D in field of robotics and unmanned systems/drones.
  • System Integration: Design, develop, and maintain robust API interfaces connecting internal AI/ML platforms with external enterprise software (e.g., ERP systems and security platforms like Microsoft Defender for Endpoint API, CrowdStrike Falcon API, or other API developer needs/opportunities).
  • Data Pipeline Automation: Build scalable pipelines to ingest, transform, and sync data between ML models and third-party enterprise APIs.
  • Design and implement cobot applications, multi-cobot workstations, and simulation environments.
  • Build scalable GUIs and reusable software components for data pipelines and manufacturing dashboards.
  • Analyze and optimize code for performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and management teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Support or lead small team technical proposals and provide guidance to peers on advanced automation and ML projects.

What You Bring
  • Education: Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer/Software Engineering, Data Science, or related field.
  • Experience: 1-4 years programming in environments such as the following:
    • Core Programming Languages: Python (Advanced), C++, R, Java.
    • ML/AI Frameworks & Libraries: PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, Hugging Face Transformers.
    • Data Processing & Databases: Pandas, NumPy, Apache Spark, SQL, PostgreSQL.
    • MLOps & Deployment: Docker, Kubernetes, MLflow, AWS (SageMaker), GCP (Vertex AI).
    • Version Control & Collaboration: Git, GitHub, GitLab, Jira.
  • Strong background in scalable software design, API development, and testing practices.
  • Familiarity with data science.
  • Bonus: Experience with recommendation systems, pattern recognition, or large-scale software architectures.

Why CME?
  • Work on mission-critical projects across defense, aerospace, industrial, and energy markets.
  • Join a collaborative, fast-moving engineering team where your impact is visible.
  • Enjoy a 4-day work week (most weeks) and a culture guided by CME's 5 Core Values: Resolves Problems, Professionalism, Challenges Themselves, Delivers, and Serves the Customer - Protects CME.
