Job description

Position Summary:
The Psychiatry Clinic LPN provides supportive, patient-centered nursing care for individuals receiving outpatient mental health services at Trinity Health. Working under the supervision of providers, RNs, and department leadership, this role assists with patient intake, medication administration, care coordination, and ongoing monitoring of behavioral health needs. The Psychiatry Clinic LPN supports safe and effective clinic operations by maintaining accurate documentation, facilitating clear communication between patients and the interdisciplinary care team, and reinforcing individualized treatment plans. Through respectful engagement, collaboration, and adherence to behavioral health care standards, this position promotes patient safety, continuity of care, and a positive therapeutic experience.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct patient intake activities including vital signs, mental health check ins, medication reviews, and preparation for psychiatric evaluations.
  • Assist providers with medication administration, long acting injectable medications, and monitoring of patient responses in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Document assessments, interventions, and patient communications accurately in the electronic health record to support coordinated care.
  • Participate in patient education regarding medication adherence, symptom management, follow up plans, and available support resources.
  • Respond to behavioral health concerns by alerting providers or RNs and following established procedures to maintain a safe clinical environment.
  • Maintain organized exam rooms and ensure clinical supplies and equipment are prepared to support daily psychiatric care operations.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • Current or temporary LPN license in ND or compact LPN licensure.
  • Ongoing CPR certification.

Educational Requirements:
  • LPN program as evidenced by licensure.

Experience Requirements:
  • One year or more of LPN experience preferred.
  • Previous experience using computerized system for information storage and retrieval preferred.
  • CPT coding experience preferred.

Special Skills or Training Requirements:
  • As determined by Department Manager or needs of clinic.

Physical Requirements:
The LPN frequently sits, stands, walks, and moves between patient care areas within the clinic. The role requires the ability to handle light to moderate supplies, perform repetitive tasks such as documentation and medication preparation, and engage in clear verbal communication with patients who may be experiencing emotional distress. Adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity are essential for safe medication handling and accurate recordkeeping.
Environmental Requirements:
Work occurs in an outpatient behavioral health environment with frequent interaction with individuals experiencing a range of psychiatric symptoms, emotional distress, or crisis situations. The role may involve exposure to unpredictable behaviors while following established safety protocols and maintaining a calm, professional demeanor. Standard precautions, PPE use, and confidentiality requirements apply at all times, and workload may vary based on patient volumes and urgent clinical needs.
