Job description

Lifeguard (Part Time / Temporary)

About the Role:
Campus Recreation lifeguards play a vital role in keeping our aquatic facilities safe, fun, and welcoming for everyone. Lifeguards help prevent accidents in the pool and surrounding deck areas by staying alert, enforcing facility rules, and responding quickly and professionally to emergencies.
Lifeguards are expected to maintain required certifications and physical readiness in line with industry standards. Attendance at all staff meetings and in-service training sessions is required to ensure everyone is prepared and confident on the job.
Primary Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of a lifeguard include supervising the aquatic facility and assisting with basic facility upkeep.
  • Monitoring pool and deck areas to ensure patron safety
  • Educating guests on pool rules and safety guidelines
  • Identifying and removing potential safety hazards
  • Following verbal and written instructions from supervisors
  • Completing required records and incident documentation
  • Performing daily cleaning and maintenance tasks
  • Arriving on time and prepared for scheduled shifts
  • Communicating effectively with fellow lifeguards, supervisors, and campus staff
  • Participating in all required in-service trainings and staff meetings

Qualifications:
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer OR YMCA Lifeguard Certification with ASHI CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Standard First Aid
  • Certifications in Bloodborne Pathogens and Administering Emergency Oxygen are highly recommended
  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or equivalent certification is a plus
