Job Description
Specific to this role:
General duties:
- Assist with regular inspections of properties; patrol and monitor for vandalism; perform garbage collection, litter picking and maintenance of amenities
- Operate various equipment and machinery related to maintenance functions in accordance with applicable legislation, policies and procedures
- Perform winter snow and ice control functions, as requested
Duties specific to Cemeteries:
- Responsible for grass cutting and grounds maintenance of cemetery properties, including planting and maintenance of trees, shrubs, and flowerbeds
- Prepare burial sites in accordance with applicable legislation; tailor grounds for individual and decoration day services
- Liaise directly with families and funeral directors to perform interment services
Duties specific to Trails:
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Responsible for maintenance of trails, including performing routine maintenance tasks including general repairs to trails, trail heads, roads, bridges, buildings and other facilities
As a member of the operational team:
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Administer defined procedures and recommend solutions to challenges or process improvements
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Work collaboratively with others to deliver the outcomes as defined; report any challenges to the supervisor
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Respond to customer service concerns; participating in problem solving and providing information to supervisor, as appropriate
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Keep daily time sheets for supervisor review and approval
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Follow prescribed health and safety procedures including wearing personal protective equipment
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Maintain documentation, databases and corporate records in accordance with policy and divisional practice; consider legislative municipal requirements such as the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA)
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Provide data or input on processes to allow reporting and decision making
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Secondary school diploma
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Demonstrated experience in grounds maintenance with emphasis in horticulture, landscape construction, cemetery and/or trails maintenance
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Demonstrated knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Demonstrated ability to operate hand tools, various machinery and equipment including small tractors and backhoe
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Effective oral communication and strong interpersonal skills; strong written communication skills; attention to detail and accuracy
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Demonstrated customer service skills at a level to develop and maintain cooperative/collaborative working relationships both within and outside the organization
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Demonstrated time-management skills with the ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and tact and maintain a high degree of confidentiality at all times, complying with all applicable privacy legislation and local policies and procedures
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet and any other related software
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's Licence
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Upon a conditional offer of employment, an acceptable Criminal Record Check will be required
