Title: Controls Engineer III
Location: 100% Onsite - Vineland, NJ
Duration: 12 Months
Hours: Normal Business hours 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday (Production support off hours as needed)
Travel: Minimal 5% travel time required
Scope of the position:
As a controls engineer in client Pharmaceutical Glass facility in Vineland, NJ, you will program the controllers on the factory floor, debug and solve equipment issues and minimize downtime by identifying root causes and implementing robust engineering solutions. You will develop a deep understanding of the controls systems and how they work with other plant systems.
Responsibilities:
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve controls systems (PLCs, HMIs, etc.) on the production floor to ensure optimal equipment operation and improve uptime and product quality metrics.
• Identify the underlying reason behind controls systems issues and solve to the root cause.
• Support new equipment installation and commissioning.
• Plan electrical machine improvement, resolve electrical problems, and execute electrical upgrade plans.
• Collaborate with other engineering groups to align with plant priorities.
• Provide technical guidance to develop training documentation, operating procedures, troubleshooting documents, and work instructions.
• Provide controls expertise to multi-functional teams when needed.
• Update engineering documents and drawings as changes are made to the systems.
• Identify and lead improvements to existing controls systems.
• Align new systems to plant and corporate standards.
• Follow electrical safety requirement and implement safe practices.
Required Education and Experience:
• BS/MS in Engineering or related field. Bachelor's is a minimum requirement.
• 5+ years of controls experience.
• Ladder logic programming expertise with Allen Bradley PLCs. Must have hands-on experience. Limited knowledge is not sufficient.
• Experience in implementing control strategies.
• Well-developed problem-solving skills. Ability to find the underlying reason for issues.
Desired Skills:
• Exposure working in a manufacturing environment.
• Working knowledge of measurements and optics
• Experience with HMIs and SCADA systems.
• Project management experience.
• Programming, networking understanding, and the ability to understand structured code (VB .NET, C#, Java, Python)
• Experience with cognex cameras.
Soft Skills:
• You will need strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Desire to continuously learn and develop new skills.
• Technical curiosity, desire to identify underlying mechanisms and root causes.
• Performs well in team-based setting and handle multiple tasks and priorities
• Self-motivated with a can-do attitude.
• Customer focused, result oriented.
• Ability to work with different functional groups such as Quality, Engineering, Operations, etc.
 
Interview Process:
• First round WebEx phone screening - 1 hour (Technical Discussion)
• Second round onsite interview - 1/2 day - 1 day
