Job Description
The Computer Consultant I position in Information Technology Services (ITS) provides IT support to over 170 administrative users in various departments and divisions. IT support roles include desktop, laptop, smartphone, tablet, and application support. Additionally, the role assesses and makes recommendations for procurement of technology equipment for staff. The Computer Consultant I work collaboratively with staff on IT projects as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.
  • One (1) plus years of relevant experience in information technologies/computer science as necessary.
  • Valid Driver's License and a vehicle are required.

Skills and Knowledge
  • Specialized knowledge includes a moderate understanding of networking, IT hardware, software and how it interacts with the operating system, printer and printing capabilities, cell technologies as they pertain the support client devices, and mobile computing platforms.
  • Familiarity with commonly used artificial intelligence (AI) tools and platforms, including but not limited to generative AI assistants, AI-powered productivity features within standard enterprise applications (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot), and AI-enhanced support and automation tools.

Responsibilities
  • Use computing concepts, documented procedures, and knowledge of SU's systems to address a wide variety of IT support requests, including but not limited to general hardware and software break/fix and hardware and software installation.
  • Effectively prioritize incoming support tickets, coordinate and schedule with users, and provide cross-unit support as requested by supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate and timely incident logs in approved ticket management system.

  • Standing 15% of the shift.
  • Sitting 65% of the shift.
  • Walking 15% of shift.
  • Frequent kneeling and climbing stairs.
  • Able to lift 35 pounds waist high, 20 pounds shoulder high, 15 lbs above head.
  • Must be able to carry weight 15ft, with pushing, pulling and holding weight.
  • Wrist and finger dexterity sufficient to use and operate a variety of hand tools and manipulate small objects.
  • Ability to see, hear/listen, touch and speak is essential to work.
  • Work requires reading, writing, analyzing data, problem solving, and conducting research on a daily basis.
  • Work environment involves 80% indoor and 20% outdoor.
