Job description

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Medical Billing & Coding Specialist to support inpatient rehabilitation and substance use disorder (SUD) programs. This role is responsible for accurate, compliant billing and coding, medical necessity reviews, denial management, and ensuring adherence to Medicare and payer-specific requirements.
Key Responsibilities
  • Review documentation for medical necessity and coding accuracy.
  • Manage inpatient rehabilitation billing, including Medicare case-mix requirements.
  • Process SUD billing using ASAM criteria, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
  • Investigate and resolve claim denials and reimbursement issues.
  • Ensure compliance with Medicare and commercial payer requirements.
  • Partner with clinical, finance, and administrative teams to improve revenue cycle performance.
  • Utilize EHR and clearinghouse systems for claims management.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience with inpatient rehabilitation billing.
  • Experience with SUD billing and ASAM criteria.
  • Strong denial management and documentation review experience.
  • Knowledge of Medicare and payer-specific billing requirements.
  • Experience with EHR and clearinghouse systems.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Netsmart Avatar and/or TruBridge.
  • CPC, CCS, RHIT, RHIA, or similar certification preferred.
  • Rehabilitation or behavioral health revenue cycle experience.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
