Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neonatal ICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience and a NC or compact RN license.

Details
  • 53-bed NICU with an average patient census of 58, plus overflow capacity, located within a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital
  • High-acuity neonatal patient population including respiratory (RDS, TTN, MAS, BPD), cardiac (TOF, VSD, HLHS, PDA, PPHN), neurological (seizures, IVH, HIE), and GI/GU/metabolic conditions (NEC, NAS, sepsis, congenital anomalies, and more)
  • Patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3
  • 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation requires 2 Fridays, 2 Mondays, and every other Saturday/Sunday within each 6-week scheduling cycle
  • No on-call responsibilities for travelers; if the NICU cannot utilize you, you may be floated to a similar unit
  • Floating may occur to Neonatal PCU, Pediatric CVICU, PICU, or general Peds unit in a helping-hand capacity, unless the traveler has prior experience in those populations
  • EMR: Epic (experience required)
  • IV Pumps: Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps; Med Dispensing: Omnicell; Monitors: Philips; Equipment includes PIV Ultrasound and Tecotherm; Breast Milk Scanning: MOMs
Requirements
  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and NRP certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Must be comfortable in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Required skills include: management of critical care vasoactive drip titration, invasive line management (ART lines/CVP), ventilator and trach management, chest tube and feeding tube (G-tube/J-tube) management, sedation and analgesic drip management, Foley insertion and management, aseptic and sterile techniques, oral/nasal suctioning, bedside procedures with providers, and discharge skills
  • Preferred skills include: EVD management, Camino device (ICP and temp monitoring), CRRT experience, and baby-side ECMO experience (manager has shown flexibility on EVD, ICP, ECMO, and CRRT experience)
  • Must provide last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
Additional Information
  • Unit support includes a unit secretary every shift, 24/7 charge nurse, 24/7 IV/VAT/PIVC team, resource nurse, 24/7 RT, 24/7 intensivist, in-house residents and APPs, centralized and bedside telemetry monitoring, unit-based educators (AM and PM), and 6 clinical supervisors
  • Orientation consists of a 2-day departmental program (NEO)
  • Schedules are determined every 6 weeks based on unit needs after the core team schedule is completed; the Clinical Supervisor provides the dates of need
  • Holiday coverage is required; travelers are expected to work every other holiday while contracted, including the day of the holiday and the eve and/or day after
  • RTO requires manager approval; travelers with significant time-off needs may be asked to extend their contract to accommodate
  • Scrub color is navy; solid navy or white long-sleeve shirts are permitted underneath; pediatric-friendly scrub tops preferred; no tight scrubs or other organization-branded attire
  • "Bare Below Elbow" policy is enforced in the nursery — no watches, rings (real or plastic), permanent jewelry, or artificial nails
  • First-time travelers may be considered on a case-by-case basis with manager approval, depending on current unit staffing
  • Candidates who have previously held a permanent position at an Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
