At Corning, there are endless possibilities for making an impact. You can help connect the unconnected, drive the future of automobiles, transform at-home entertainment, and ensure the delivery of lifesaving medicines. And so much more.
Come break through with us.
Corning's businesses are ever-evolving to best serve our customers, industries, and consumers. Today, we accelerate and transform life sciences, mobile consumer electronics, optical communications, display, automotive, and solar markets. We are changing the world with:
  • Trusted products that accelerate drug discovery, development, and delivery to save lives
  • Damage-resistant cover glass to enhance the devices that keep us connected
  • Optical fiber, wireless technologies, and connectivity solutions to carry information and ideas at the speed of light
  • Precision glass for advanced displays to deliver richer experiences
  • Auto glass and ceramics to drive cleaner, safer, and smarter transportation
  • Solar polysilicon, wafers, and innovative photovoltaic modules, enabling low-cost solar energy solutions

Scope of the role:
This role is responsible for the design and implementation of glass forming manufacturing equipment in Corning's Mobile Consumer Electronics group. This position spans equipment design, tooling, and supporting hardware, from early ideation through production, optimization, and end-of-life. The engineer in this role has a direct impact on product quality, manufacturing yield, and overall success of the group. We are seeking an engineer with prior, relatable experience in manufacturing equipment design who can quickly integrate into a production environment, collaborate effectively with operations and suppliers, and deliver results with minimal ramp-up time.
What You Will Own:
  • Concept development, detailed design, validation, production support, and continuous improvement of equipment designs.
  • Design and release of new process tools, equipment, repairs, and upgrades to existing platforms
  • Product life cycle management (PLM) of forming equipment, including configuration control, revision management, and technical documentation
  • Development and implementation of design adjustments and compensations based on process performance, quality feedback, and operational data

How You Will Make an Impact:
  • Convert forming process requirements into robust, manufacturable, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Work closely with internal and external suppliers to support fabrication, inspection, and acceptance
  • Support installation, trials, and validation of equipment in manufacturing plants, resolving issues encountered during ramp and sustained production
  • Act as a technical owner and decision-maker for equipment designs, representing the function in design reviews and cross-functional problem-solving forums
  • Evaluate and compare multiple technical solutions to complex challenges involving forming behavior, thermal performance, wear, and manufacturability, and clearly justify design decisions

What Sets You Apart
You bring hands-on experience designing and supporting tooling or manufacturing equipment in production environments and understand the realities of supplier interactions, plant constraints, and continuous improvement cycles.
Required Qualifications:
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing equipment design roles
  • Process equipment design for glass, metals, plastics, or other high-volume manufacturing processes
  • Equipment or tool design in high-temperature or precision manufacturing environments
  • Strong understanding of machining methods, tolerances, materials, and wear mechanisms
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and thermal analysis; FEA experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with GD&T and standard manufacturing processes
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple designs and priorities in a manufacturing-driven environment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with tooling and mold design for glass, metals, plastics, or other high-volume manufacturing processes
  • Exposure to product life cycle documentation, revision management, and configuration control for tooling, molds, or other wear items
  • Experience supporting tooling or mold fabrication, supplier check-out, and plant trials

Work Location & Travel:
  • This position may be based in either Corning, New York or Harrodsburg, Kentucky, depending on candidate preference and business needs.
  • This is a full-time, on-site role
  • Approximately 40% travel, combined local, domestic, and international)

This position does not support immigration sponsorship.
The range for this position is $83,134.00 - $114,310.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
