Job Title: Lead Software Engineer (Platform, Operator Systems, and DevSecOps)

Job Code: 40437

Job Location: Colorado Springs, CO

Job Schedule: 9/80 schedule (Every Other Friday Off)

Job Description:

The Lead Software Engineer, Platform, Operator Systems, and DevSecOps, is a hands-on technical lead for a new program and leads a small software engineering team building the initial shared platform and operator-systems baseline. GBRD is a L3Harris radar software modernization effort focused on delivering a common, open-interfaces baseline that supports Missile Warning, Missile Defense, and Space Domain Awareness missions through shared backend services, equipment integration, workflow orchestration, secure delivery automation, and operator-facing status integration. Using broad experience across platform, integration, automation, and operator systems, the role provides technical leadership for a consolidated team that keeps the broader GBRD baseline buildable, operable, and coherent. The team's mission is to provide the common services, equipment-facing control seams, automation, and operator-system integration, including coordination around React-based operator workflows, status views, and control interfaces, that let mission and signal-processing software run reliably across lab and field-representative environments.

Essential Functions

  • Lead a hands-on software engineering team delivering shared platform, operator-system integration, and secure-delivery capabilities for a new program initial implementation.
  • Make architecture decisions within the team scope and represent backend, platform, workflow, and operator-integration tradeoffs in cross-team and program-level architecture discussions.
  • Contribute directly to implementation, peer review, interface closure, integration planning, troubleshooting, and technical risk reduction.
  • Coordinate across teams to keep common services, interfaces, and operator-facing behavior aligned and operationally coherent across the baseline.
  • Drive development of shared platform services, equipment integration, workflow automation, secure delivery, observability, and operator-system integration across the baseline.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of technical leadership experience leading small engineering teams in software delivery.
  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience, or Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience, or in lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.

Preferred Additional Skills

  • Experience with shared backend services, event-driven or message-oriented architectures, or interface-contract definition across multiple teams or suppliers.
  • Experience developing and integrating platform or operator-system software, with depth in one or more of these areas:
    • shared backend or distributed platform software
    • Equipment control, device interfaces, or representative simulators
    • Workflow orchestration or recovery automation
    • DevSecOps, CI/CD, Kubernetes-based platform automation, or secure software delivery
    • Human-machine interface or operator-console integration using React or similar modern UI frameworks
  • Experience with distributed or interface-heavy mission systems in Linux environments.
  • Experience with modern UI frameworks and client technologies such as React.
  • Proficiency in backend systems programming languages such as C++ and Go.
  • Familiarity with identity federation, workload identity, policy-enforcement patterns, audit-event design, or least-privilege access controls.
  • Experience with configuration frameworks that support baseline and location-unique behavior.
  • Experience with equipment-control software, hardware-control systems, timing-sensitive interfaces, or mixed hardware-and-simulator integration labs.
  • Experience with fault injection, degraded-mode testing, maintenance or safe-mode behavior, simulator adequacy assessment, or compare-to-hardware validation.
  • Experience with workflow orchestration, configuration-driven automation, calibration flows, startup or recovery automation, or operator-visible automation for mission systems.
  • Experience operating in air-gapped or restricted development environments using Kubernetes, Helm, GitOps, artifact registries, package mirrors, or similar platform tooling.
  • Experience integrating code-quality, test, compliance, vulnerability-scanning, signed-artifact, or release-governance gates into delivery pipelines.
  • Experience with operator consoles, status displays, or control-room software in defense, aerospace, or industrial environments.
  • Familiarity with front-end state management, UI test automation, or performance tuning for complex operational interfaces.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado state is $117,000-$218,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. L3Harris also offers a variety of benefits, including health and disability insurance, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, EAP, education assistance, parental leave, paid time off, and company-paid holidays. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
