Job description

Duties As a PRINTING SERVICES SPECIALIST (TITLE 32), GS-1654-7, you will set up, adjust, and operate an electronic publishing system with sophisticated network accessed document, publishing, scanning, and media conversion capabilities using two or more types of related equipment. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: * Responsible for the creation of finished products in paper formats. * Review print requests to determine delivery date, type paper stock, color, and image position. * Utilize multiple design software applications to receive and convert job order data into formats suitable for production runs on an electronic duplicating system. * Apply skilled working knowledge of printing procedures and reproduction methods to ensure that end products meet the customers' requirements and comply with required regulations. * Select system features and options required to complete the job according to specifications. * Set up appropriate controls on print software to utilize enhancement features. * Convert documents using multiple software programs to ensure print compatibility. * Apply skills and knowledge to convert concepts into graphics that enhance ideas into visual formats (i.e., posters, book covers, graphics, charts, maps, diagrams, schematics, etc) * Provide technical guidance and coordination of graphic design and reproduction activities in paper format. * Use a variety of publishing, graphics, and design software, which includes, but is not limited to, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, Microsoft Publisher and Office to scan, size, enhance, retouch and otherwise manipulate text and other visual information. Requirements Conditions of employment * This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement. This is required prior to the effective date of placement. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position. * Selectee will be required to wear a military uniform. * Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. * Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. * Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. * May be required to successfully complete a trial period. * This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. If an Optional Form (OF) 306, Declaration of Employment is submitted prior to the point of a conditional offer, questions related to background information section may not be asked. * Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day. * Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment. * Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing. * Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Qualifications AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence, * The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. * The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. * The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. * The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. * The FIFTH area of consideration will be all U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Enlisted/Warrant Officer/Officer - NTE rank of O5 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : GS-7 Level MUST possess specialized experience determining specifications for the printing of manuscript, i.e., selection of typography, layout, composition, format, paper stock, and other printer's instructions; experience negotiating or administering contracts for procurement of manuscript and illustrations, printing, binding and allied services, or printing stocks (paper, inks, etc.); experience managing a printing plant that produces printing either for the government or private industry customers; experience performing production control work in a large printing plant; experience; serving as a sales representative for a wide variety of printing equipment; experience analyzing the price and cost of preparation and production of printing; experience planning, estimating, and scheduling printing on a full-time basis for a variety of publications; experience performing substantive administrative support or policy functions directly related to publishing and printing program management or operation.. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
