Job Title: Senior Life Safety & Fire Protection Designer
Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Life Safety & Fire Protection Designer to join our growing engineering team. You will be responsible for the end-to-end design process of life safety and fire protection systems for large-scale, complex projects. From conceptual layout to 3D BIM coordination and construction documentation, you will serve as the technical engine for ensuring our facilities are code-compliant, resilient, and safe.
This is a dynamic role for a designer who thrives in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment. You will work closely with lead engineers and architects to translate abstract project requirements into constructible, high-precision designs. If you are a Revit power-user with a deep understanding of fire alarm and suppression systems, we want you to help us design the future of safe, resilient building infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Design & BIM Leadership
• Technical Design: Execute the design of fire alarm/detection, fire suppression, smoke control, and life safety systems. Produce detailed calculations, equipment schedules, and network diagrams.
• 3D Modeling & Coordination: Utilize Revit MEP to create precise 3D models. Facilitate clash detection in a BIM environment (e.g., ACC/Forma) to resolve spatial conflicts during the design phase.
• Documentation: Lead the production of construction-ready drawings, 2D/3D deliverables, and technical specifications, ensuring all work meets rigorous internal quality standards.
Compliance & Collaboration
• Regulatory Expertise: Apply your knowledge of NFPA, IBC, and IFC codes to every design decision. Ensure all systems provide optimal asset protection and life safety.
• Project Lifecycle: Manage design deliverables for multiple concurrent projects. Coordinate with equipment vendors, architects, and structural/electrical engineers to maintain project schedules.
• Design Excellence: Act as a technical resource for the team, troubleshooting installation issues and providing guidance on fire protection and signaling system applications.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Experience Baseline: Minimum of four (4) years of professional experience in Life Safety/Fire Alarm system design using Autodesk Revit.
• Technical Mastery: Proficiency in Revit MEP, AutoCAD, Excel, and Bluebeam Revu.
• Design Logic: Experience with clash detection and 3D coordination in a BIM environment.
• Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with NFPA 72, NFPA 101, and the International Building/Fire Codes (IBC/IFC).
Preferred Attributes
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an equivalent technical field.
• Experience with specialized suppression system calculations (e.g., NFPA 13, 2001).
• Ability to work effectively in a "fast-paced" project environment where design requirements evolve rapidly.
• Strong communication skills-the ability to present technical design solutions clearly to engineering leads and stakeholders.
