Temporary Fence Installer information

What does a temporary fence installer do?

A Temporary Fence Installer is responsible for setting up, maintaining, and removing temporary fencing at construction sites, events, or other locations where short-term barriers are needed. Their duties include transporting fencing materials, assembling panels or barriers according to safety guidelines, and ensuring the fence is secure and stable. Installers often work outdoors in various weather conditions and must follow instructions to meet client requirements and safety regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary fence installer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temporary Fence Installer, you need basic construction knowledge, physical stamina, and familiarity with safety regulations, often gained through on-the-job training or a high school diploma. Experience with hand and power tools, as well as the ability to interpret site plans and use measurement systems, is typically required. Strong teamwork, problem-solving, and time management skills help installers adapt to changing job sites and coordinate with other contractors. These abilities are essential for ensuring fence installations are safe, efficient, and meet client specifications.

What are some common challenges faced by temporary fence installers on the job?

Temporary Fence Installers often work outdoors in varying weather conditions, which can make installations physically demanding and sometimes unpredictable. Navigating different site layouts and ensuring proper placement to meet safety standards are routine challenges. Lead from the Front. Drive the Crew. Build Richmond's Infrastructure.

Are you a hands-on leader who isn't afraid to roll up your sleeves, work alongside your team, and take ownership of a job site? Sunbelt Rentals is looking for a Lead Fence Installer to lead temporary fencing setup and breakdown projects across the Richmond metro area.

In this role, you aren't just sitting in a truck delegating-you're out on the field working shoulder-to-shoulder with your crew while serving as the primary lead on the job site. You'll also take the wheel of our non-CDL company trucks to safely haul equipment, fencing materials, and your team to and from jobsites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead by Example: Work alongside your installation crew to safely build, install, and tear down temporary fencing and barricades according to project specs.

  • Job Site Ownership: Serve as the main point of contact on-site, coordinate with clients, manage daily tasks, and ensure high-quality, on-time completion.

  • Crew Management & Safety: Supervise, train, and mentor crew members. Set a high bar for site safety, conduct site checklists, and feel empowered to call a "Safety Time Out" whenever necessary.

  • Drive & Logistics: Safely operate non-CDL company vehicles (such as 1-ton trucks) to transport your crew, equipment, and materials, ensuring all loads are secured to DOT standards.

  • Documentation & Detail: Complete daily job reports, site checklists, and inventory logs accurately.

What We're Looking For
  • Hands-On Leadership: Proven ability to motivate a team, manage site workflow, and lead under tight deadlines.

  • Driving Record: Valid driver's license with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) suitable to clear background checks for operating company vehicles.

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform heavy physical labor outdoors in various weather conditions, including lifting and carrying fence panels (approx. 50-80 lbs).

  • Technical Skills: Comfortable using hand and power tools (drills, post drivers, power washers, banding equipment). Forklift or 1-ton truck experience is a strong plus!

  • Reliability: Own reliable transportation to report to the Richmond branch.

Why Join Sunbelt Rentals in Richmond?
  • Competitive pay with full-time hours (40 scheduled hours/week).

  • Solid career growth opportunities within an industry-leading organization.

  • A collaborative culture where your hard work and safety-first mindset are valued every day.
