Summary

THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION FOR THE SALEM OUTAGE

Perform work of lower skill in the operation, inspection, testing and adjustment of all Artificial Island fire protection system and equipment.

Job Responsibilities

Duties:

Perform work of lower skills in the operation, inspection, testing and adjustment of all plant fire protection systems, first aid functions, and equipment. Duties are remove, repair and/or install as required, fire protection equipment such as fire hoses, fire extinguishers, sprinklers, plug-in components, isolation valves, fire doors, replacement of flow switches, tamper switches, fusible links, replace level and pressure switches, lamping and batter replacement on emergency lighting, etc.,

  • Operate, test, and adjust fire protection equipment such as: fire hydrants, deluge and isolation valves,  foam systems, Cardox and Halon suppression systems, alarm systems, breathing apparatus and auxiliary equipment associated with the fire protection system
  • Make routine inspections of equipment and areas as assigned and record data as required
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and assigned areas
  • Move and handle fire protection equipment, materials and supplies
  • Assist other departments as needed
  • Operate and test fire pumps
  • Perform confined space surveys to determine the presence of oxygen and/or potential explosive gas atmospheres
  • Perform other similar or less skilled work of the occupational group
Job Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must meet the Company's "General Requirements", as defined in the Union handbook
  • Must demonstrate: The ability to follow detailed instructions and carry out complex assignment; an aptitude for mechanical work and technical work; keen faculties of observation; oral and written communications skills necessary for performance of work.
  • Meet and maintain Nuclear' s requirements for unescorted site access
  • The job may require driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid driver's license with a safe and satisfactory driver history
  • Must have at least 6 months of outside and/or industrial work experience within the last 3 years or; College/technical school gradua
  • A valid Real ID or an approved form of alternate documentation (https://www.pseg.com/IDrequirement) is required for this job.

Unescorted Access

This role will require the successful candidate to obtain and maintain vital area Nuclear Plant Unescorted Access.  To obtain Nuclear Plant Unescorted Access, the successful candidate will have to successfully complete: a satisfactory background investigation in addition to the Company's background investigation, which includes fingerprint and criminal history record check, reference checks, and education and employment verification; physical examination; psychological assessment; and nuclear plant access training requirements; and Fitness for Duty requirements, including both pre-placement and random drug/alcohol testing as part of the Company's requirement for a workforce that is free from the influence of foreign chemical substances as defined by federal law.

Some positions at PSEG require access to information covered by the Department of Energy's regulation 10 CFR 810 (Part 810). If applicable, the successful applicant must prove they are: (1) a citizen or national of the USA; OR (2) a lawful permanent resident of the United States (Non-Conditional Permanent I-551 / Green Card / Permanent Resident Card holder); OR (3) a citizen, national, or permanent resident of a "Generally Authorized" destination on the attached list not also a citizen, national, permanent resident of any country not listed; OR (4) a "Protected Individual" under the Immigration and Naturalization Act (8 U.S.C 1324b(a)(3)).
