Job description
To be successful in this role, applicants should bring a passion for expanding educational opportunities and empowering students to achieve their academic and career goals. Ideally, applicants should have a bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Social Sciences, or a closely related field, along with at least one year of experience working with at-risk, low-income, underrepresented, or first-generation students in secondary or postsecondary educational settings or similar experience.
The advisor-coordinator should understand the postsecondary admissions process and have demonstrated knowledge of college planning, financial aid, FAFSA completion, and student recruitment strategies. They should be comfortable providing one-on-one advising, facilitating engaging workshops, and confidently and professionally presenting information to students, families, and school partners.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are essential, as the advisor-coordinator will manage multiple priorities while maintaining accurate participant records and ensuring compliance with federal TRIO grant requirements. Proficiency with data management systems, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace applications will help you succeed, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative, student-centered approach.
The ideal candidate is adaptable, values teamwork, and maintains a safety-first mindset when supervising student activities. Flexibility to occasionally work evenings or weekends in support of student events, workshops, and other program activities is also important.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Social Sciences, or closely related field.
An unrestricted Alaska driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving criteria is required.
Position Details:
This position is located at Bartlett, West, and/or Bettye Davis East High School as well as on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus. This is a full-time, non-exempt temporary staff position. New hires will be placed on the UA Temporary Staff Salary Schedule , Grade 79, based on education and experience.
