Department of Applied Humanities Temporary Faculty Pool
The DepartmentThe Department of Applied Humanities brings together several vibrant academic programs focused on human thought, language, ethics, and culture. With majors and minors in French & Francophone Studies, Philosophy, and Spanish, the department offers students a broad foundation in critical thinking, communication, and global awareness-skills that prepare them for meaningful careers in education, public service, international work, law, and beyond.
This listing represents a single temporary faculty pool for the Applied Humanities department. Applicants may be considered for part-time teaching opportunities in any of the programs listed below, depending on qualifications and departmental needs.
French & Francophone StudiesThis program emphasizes global cultural perspectives and second-language fluency through the study of French language, literature, and culture in Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, and North America.

Qualifications French and Francophone Studies CoursesDegree: B.A./B.S. or equivalent. is required.
Experience: Successful teaching experience and academic or professional work related to French language and Francophone cultures is required.
Preferred: M.A./Ph.D. or equivalent; teaching experience at the university level; native or near-native French-speaker with recent experience living in a French-speaking country; ability to teach in French & English; demonstrated teaching excellence in French and Francophone African literatures and cultures and beginning and advanced French language courses.
Philosophy Courses- 100-level courses
- Degree: Earned M.A. in appropriate field.
- Experience: Documented successful teaching experience within the past three (3) years.
- Preferred: Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. and training, teaching, experience and specialization relevant to the course. Preference will be given to candidates who have taught one (1) or more courses equivalent to lower or upper division general education courses.
- 300-level and above
- Degree: Earned Ph.D. in Philosophy, ABD will be considered.
- Experience: Documented successful teaching experience within the past three (3) years.
- Preferred: Preference will be given to candidates with training, teaching, experience and specialization relevant to the course. Preference will be given to candidates who have taught one (1) or more courses equivalent to lower or upper division general education courses.
Degree: B.A./B.S. or equivalent is required.
Experience: Successful teaching experience and academic or professional work appropriate to teach specific courses.
Preferred: M.A./Ph.D. or equivalent; teaching experience at the university level; expertise in area of specialization appropriate to the course; evidence of teaching effectiveness; ability to teach in Spanish and English.

Salary: Dependent on qualifications and experience.
The full-time (15 weighted teaching units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated in the schedules below are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six (6) monthly payments for each full semester.
The salary schedule information for the Lecturer - Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:
Lecturer A $5,507 - $6,677
Lecturer B $6,221 - $13,224
Lecturer C $6,825 - $14,523
Appointees are typically placed at the beginning of the range.

Cal Poly Humboldt sits on the traditional homelands of the Wiyot people in what is currently called Arcata, CA. The Wiyot people call the area Goudi'ni (over in the woods). The Cal Poly Humboldt campus in Northern California is in close proximity to several thriving Native American tribes and communities. Humboldt currently has the largest percentage of Native American students in the CSU system and has over 30 Native American faculty and staff, many from local area California Indian tribes. Cal Poly Humboldt is home to a number of leading Native American programs including the Indian Tribal Education and Personnel Program (ITEPP) and the Indian Natural Resource, Science and Engineering Program (INRSEP). There are also many opportunities at Humboldt to conduct research, teaching and community work on Native American history and cultures, with resources in Special Collections at the Cal Poly Humboldt library. The Humboldt Room in the Library has fantastic resources for tribally focused archive materials from the region. Humboldt strives to build a supportive and inclusive Native community and engages with Native communities through initiatives and opportunities like the annual California Indian Big Time, Indigenous People's Week, and a chance to network with other faculty and staff as part of the Cal Poly Humboldt Council of American Indian Faculty and Staff. It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide complete and accurate employment information.
