Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and organized Temporary Registered Nurse to join our team. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to our organization's success while gaining valuable experience. The role is temporary, with an initial duration until November 2027, at which point the position will be reevaluated based on organizational needs and performance.
Job Purpose and Objectives:
Responsible for direct nursing services for clients in open and satellite clinics for Montgomery County.
Position Requirements and Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Position Requirements:
1. High school diploma or equivalent
2. Graduate from an accredited nursing school
3. One year of experience in public health nursing
Certifications / Licenses:
1. Ability to complete ICS training within six months of hire
2. Registered in the State of Kansas to practice issued by the Kansas State Board of Nursing
3. Maintains current Assessment Certification, including vision and hearing, ASQ-3 and ASQ-2 certifications
4. Completes WIC training modules and attends new employee training for the WIC program
5. CPR Certification
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
1. Ability to administer injections and treatments and perform screening tests
2. Knowledge of professional nursing practices, public health nursing theory, and practice of their application
3. Familiar with Emergency Preparation role within the Health Department

  1. Evaluates each client's immunization status and determines appropriate action based on written protocols
  2. Obtains laboratory specimens for the screening and/or diagnosis of communicable diseases
  3. Provides screenings for hypertension, diabetes, anemia, and urinalysis, and determines appropriate action based on referral criteria
  4. Provides health education regarding communicable diseases, family planning methods, and sexually transmitted diseases to parents, children, and the general public
  5. Provides Physical Assessments, including vision, hearing, ASQ-3, and ASQ: SE-2 screenings, and laboratory tests with appropriate referrals and follow-up
  6. Counsels the client and family in meeting health needs, including health promotions, nutrition, and chronic health needs
  7. Completes nursing assessment and assigns food packages
  8. Performs duties related to Health Department programs to fulfill grant requirements
  9. Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances
  10. Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary
  11. Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures
  12. Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools and other aids as required or needed
