Heavy Equipment Operator / Excavator Operator

Location: Virginia Beach, VA

Pay: $24–$28+/hour (based on experience)

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–5:00 PM | 40–50 Hours Weekly

Are you an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator, Excavator Operator, Dozer Operator, Grade Operator, Utility Operator, or Equipment Operator looking for a long-term opportunity with a respected local contractor?

We're seeking skilled operators with experience in site development, utility installation, excavation, grading, and underground construction. This is a hands-on role where you'll operate heavy equipment while also assisting the crew on the ground when needed.

What You'll Do
  • Operate excavators, dozers, front-end loaders, and other heavy equipment safely and efficiently
  • Perform rough grading and fine grading according to project specifications
  • Excavate trenches and assist with underground utility installation
  • Move dirt, gravel, stone, and other materials around construction sites
  • Clear and prepare sites for construction and development projects
  • Assist with pipe installation, storm drain, water, and sewer projects
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance concerns
  • Perform basic equipment care and preventative maintenance
  • Work alongside grade crews and utility crews to complete projects safely and on schedule
  • Follow all company and jobsite safety standards
What We're Looking For
  • 2+ years of heavy equipment operating experience
  • Experience operating excavators, dozers, and front-end loaders
  • Experience with site development, grading, earthwork, or utility construction
  • Ability to read grade stakes and follow project specifications
  • Comfortable working inside and outside of equipment when needed
  • Strong awareness of jobsite safety and underground utilities
  • Dependable work ethic and ability to work as part of a team

Work Environment

Work outdoors on commercial construction, site development, and utility projects throughout the Hampton Roads area. Operators can expect a combination of equipment operation and occasional ground work supporting grade and utility crews. Hours are typically Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional weekend work depending on project demands and weather conditions.

Ideal candidates: Heavy Equipment Operators, Excavator Operators, Utility Operators, Grade Operators, Pipe Crew Operators, and Site Development professionals seeking a stable, long-term opportunity with competitive pay and outstanding benefits.You will be required to work across 15 job sites located in the Richmond Metro area, with the furthest site being 45 minutes from Chester, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
