Job description

DHR Health - US:TX:Edinburg - Days
Summary:
The dialysis nurse is responsible and accountable for prescribing, delegating and coordinating the nursing care of patients receiving chronic and acute hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.
POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing required
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred
  • Current registered nurses license in the State of Texas or Compact State License required
  • Current BLS certification from The American Heart Association.
  • ACLS certification within 6 months of hire
  • Prefer national certification and/or professional organization membership
  • Computer skills required with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Some evening or weekend work will be required
  • Bilingual - English/Spanish.

Responsibilities:
  • Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.
  • Primes dialyzer and bloodlines
  • Records patients' medical information and vital signs
  • Readies dialysis equipment
  • Oversees the dialysis treatment from start to finish
  • Cannulates accesses
  • Demonstrates the ability to remove femoral shealths & administer medications, including thrombolytics
  • Cleans and dresses permanent and temporary catheters
  • Monitors patient and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients, and interprets and records
  • Identifies irregular dialysis reactions and notifies appropriate medical team members
  • Secures blood works
  • Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their illness, by explaining: post-treatment home care needs, diet/nutrition/exercise programs, self-administration of medication, if needed
  • Maintains medical inventory
  • Provides pre- and post procedure care to patients within the Hemodialysis Unit
  • Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of one (1) year Dialysis nurse experience
  • Skill in establishing a balanced perspective on mission effectiveness and business results is critical.
  • Knowledge of State, Federal, and JCAHO regulations.

CUSTOMER SERVICE:
Provide excellent customer service to all DHR customers. All employees are required to attend the DHR C.A.R.E.S program which outlines the Customer Service Principals including: Commitment, Accountability, Respect, Excellence and Service.
AGE SPECIFIC:
Employees must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirement relative to his or her age.
