Job description

At Murphy Oil Corporation, we believe the rich experiences and backgrounds of our employees strengthen our Company, create a productive workforce, and drive our success. We encourage you to apply for the positions for which you meet the qualifications.
Job Summary
Murphy Oil is seeking an experienced Data & Integration Architect to lead the design, architecture, and delivery of enterprise grade data engineering and integration solutions. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technologist with deep expertise in the Microsoft Azure ecosystem, strong data governance acumen, and leadership skills to guide distributed teams while managing key business stakeholder relationships.
The Advisor, Data & Integration Architect, will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work up to two (2) days a week remotely, as business needs allow.
Responsibilities
  • Architect, design, and oversee delivery of scalable data engineering and integration solutions across the enterprise, leveraging the Microsoft/Azure technology stack
  • Translate business requirements into robust technical designs, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards and long-term scalability
  • Lead end-to-end solution delivery, providing hands-on technical guidance to engineering teams on complex data and integration challenges
  • Design and implement data pipelines and integration workflows using Azure Data Factory, Logic Apps, Azure Functions, and API Management (APIM)
  • Architect and optimize data platforms using Azure Databricks, including performance tuning, cluster management, and workflow orchestration; leverage Genie for AI assisted data exploration and insights
  • Establish and enforce data governance frameworks using Unity Catalog, Microsoft Purview, and/or other data marketplace and cataloging tools
  • Apply AI/ML capabilities to enhance data solutions, automate processes, and drive intelligent insights across the platform
  • Write and review high-quality SQL, Python, and PySpark code; ensure engineering best practices are followed across the team
  • Contribute to or guide application development efforts using React and Node.js where full stack capabilities are needed
  • Act as a technical leader and mentor, fostering a collaborative, high performing engineering culture across distributed, global teams
  • Partner closely with business stakeholders, product owners, and cross functional teams to gather requirements, manage expectations, and ensure successful project outcomes
  • Champion Agile delivery practices, participating actively in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with peers, business units, and leadership; represent the technical function in stakeholder discussions
  • Lead and coordinate delivery across multiple, separate teams (e.g., data and integration teams working in parallel), ensuring alignment, clear ownership, and seamless collaboration between them
  • Mentor junior engineers, actively helping them build and strengthen their programming skills on the core technologies used by the team

Licenses/ Certifications

  • Minimum 20 years of progressive experience building and architecting data engineering and integration solutions
  • Strong hands-on expertise with the Microsoft technology stack and Azure cloud platform

  • Practical, applied experience with AI/ML capabilities integrated into data engineering workflows
  • Solid understanding of data governance principles and hands-on experience with Unity Catalog, Microsoft Purview, and/or other data marketplace/governance tools
  • In-depth, hands-on technical expertise with Azure integration services, including:
    • API Management (APIM)
    • Logic Apps
    • Azure Functions
    • Azure Data Factory (ADF)
  • Strong programming proficiency in SQL, Python, and PySpark
  • Proficiency in Agile/Scrum methodologies and delivery practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to clearly convey complex technical concepts to both technical and nontechnical audiences
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams, fostering collaboration and technical excellence
  • Strong team player with demonstrated leadership capability in cross functional, distributed team environments
  • Experience working effectively with globally distributed teams across multiple time zones
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management experience, with the ability to build trusted relationships with business and technology partners
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to guide teams through complex technical scenarios
