Description
MACC Peer Tutors needed for math, science, and writing courses. Build your work experience while meeting new people and receiving satisfaction from helping other students. Job Responsibilities
The LARC tutors are recommended by instructors for their expertise in one or more specific subjects. Since their knowledge would be useless without people skills, tutor applicants are also interviewed for those qualities and approved by both the LARC Coordinator and the LARC Director. All tutors must have received an A or B in the subjects they are required to tutor. Tutors are CRLA trained and certified. Tutors are required to adhere to Professional Behavioral standards.
Duties include:

  • Serve as student role models
  • Attend tutor meetings when applicable
  • Assist Coordinator/Director with special projects
  • Adhere to the policies and standards established by the LARC
  • Be prepared, present, and punctual for work

  • Follow shutdown procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Additional Information
The LARC provides individual and group tutoring services to MACC students. Peer tutors facilitate the learning process by helping students understand and "learn-how-to-learn" course materials while taking responsibility for their own learning. Tutors may not do the work for the student and will use the Socratic Questioning method to lead students to self-understanding.
