Job description

Lead the programs that keep millions of pounds of waste out of landfills.

Sustainability Manager

IN OFFICE POSITION

Salary Range: $90,000 - $150,000

Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt

CR&R Incorporated is seeking an experienced Sustainability Manager to lead our municipal recycling, organics, and waste diversion programs. This role sits at the intersection of environmental policy, municipal partnership, and community outreach — driving compliance with SB 1383 and other state mandates while helping the cities we serve hit their diversion and greenhouse gas reduction goals.

Why This Role Matters

Sustainability Managers are the primary link between CR&R and the municipalities we serve. Your leadership directly shapes whether communities meet state-mandated diversion goals, and your program design determines how effectively residents and businesses participate in recycling and organics efforts.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and lead sustainability strategies that support municipal franchise agreements and diversion goals
  • Manage municipal recycling, organics, food recovery, and contamination reduction programs
  • Serve as the primary company representative to municipal staff, city councils, and regulatory agencies
  • Lead outreach and education programs for residential, commercial, and multi-family customers
  • Supervise and develop a team of Sustainability and Outreach Specialists

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Environmental Policy, Business Administration, or related field
  • 5+ years of supervisory or management experience
  • Experience with municipal solid waste, recycling, organics processing, or environmental consulting strongly preferred
  • Strong public speaking, project management, and data analysis skills

Why Join CR&R

  • Lead high-impact programs with real, measurable environmental outcomes
  • Stable, growing organization at the forefront of California's waste diversion mandates
  • Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits
  • Direct visibility with municipal leadership and executive teams
