Work Zone Safety Coordinator
Columbia, SC - Primary Location
Lead Safety and Traffic Control Operations on Critical Highway Construction Projects
C.R. Jackson, Inc. is seeking an experienced Work Zone Safety Coordinator to oversee and support temporary traffic control and field safety operations on roadway and heavy highway construction projects throughout South Carolina.
This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for a construction professional with experience in work zone traffic control, roadway construction, safety compliance, and field coordination. The successful candidate will serve as a key resource for project managers, superintendents, foremen, inspectors, and field crews by helping ensure safe, compliant, and efficient project operations.
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, the ability to influence safe work practices, and experience communicating effectively with construction personnel, public agency representatives, subcontractors, and the traveling public.
Compensation: $65,000-$72,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
Position Summary
The Work Zone Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting and monitoring safety compliance and temporary traffic control operations across multiple construction projects. This position works closely with project leadership to ensure all work zones are established and maintained in accordance with approved traffic control plans, company policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable state and federal standards.
The Coordinator will conduct field inspections, mentor crews on work zone safety best practices, identify and correct hazards, assist with safety training initiatives, and provide leadership in maintaining a culture of accountability and safety excellence.
This role requires prior construction experience and the ability to work independently while interacting professionally with employees at all levels of the organization.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in roadway construction, temporary traffic control, construction safety, or related field operations
  • Previous experience leading crews, coordinating field activities, or serving in a supervisory role preferred
  • Working knowledge of temporary traffic control standards, work zone safety requirements, and roadway construction operations
  • Experience interpreting traffic control plans and project specifications
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred
  • ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) certification preferred or ability to obtain
  • Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with project owners, inspectors, subcontractors, and construction personnel
  • Proficient with documentation, reporting, and field inspections
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between project sites
