Job description

Description: Work on an automated bagger machine that "bags" and packages the finished product. Control to start/stop the machine, troubleshoot minor issues (bag jams, labeling mistakes, etc.), loading the machine with film to package products.

Work Environment: This job operates in a food production and warehouse setting. The floor surface is concrete. The noise level is moderate with no vibration. Material movement takes place throughout the facility.

Physical Demands:

  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs., carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects as assigned by position.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to position boxes, bags and equipment.
  • Reaching overhead, above shoulders and horizontally.
  • Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.
  • Ability to stand and walk for an entirety of a shift.

Competencies:

  • Machine Operation: Ability to set up, operate, and maintain bagging equipment.
  • Quality Control: Inspect product packaging to ensure compliance with specifications while maintaining records of production and machine performance ensuring all items are correctly labeled and coded.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve machine jams and malfunctions while quickly adapting to changes and issues that arise during the packaging process.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety regulations and protocols.
  • Communication: Ability to read and understand written instructions and communicate effectively and collaborating with team members to ensure smooth operations.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Following GMPs, OSHA Safety, and all other company procedures.
  • Proficiency with vertical form and seal baggers
  • Check every bag that is being handled for requirements mandated from the customer.
  • Keep a clean and sanitary working environment
  • Inform Kitchen Operators when packaging issues arise
  • Check paperwork to ensure accuracy for shift, bagger and line.
  • Comprehensive in the practices, procedures and techniques involved in food manufacturing
  • Uses proper lifting techniques
  • Comprehensive in general mathematic calculations
  • Keep the line clean throughout shift when possible and during downtime
  • Communicate with the machine operators to ensure accurate counts and plan for changeovers
  • Communicate with Hilo driver to ensure accurate counts of product and restock of packaging
  • Stack cases and/or displays on the correct pallets, with the correct number of cases, properly labeled, stacked, and wrapped neatly
  • Assist with cleaning during changeovers and end of the week cleans
  • Communicate with the Machine Operators to ensure accurate counts.
  • Participate in monthly Safety training courses.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED preferred
